About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Carbon belt drives are standardized

Texbiker.net Posted on January 28, 2008 by Rick AnkrumJanuary 28, 2008

The future drive scene might be coming together. According to bikebiz.com the top belt manufacturers have agreed to standardize the size specifications. The carbon belt has started to gain exposure as a replacement for the drive train.

From the article:

The four main Poly Chain players meet to agree standard width and pitch

It could have been Blu-Ray versus HD DVD, Betamax versus VHS, or a width replay of the 19th Century Gauge War between Brunel versus Stephenson.

Instead, heads have been banged together and the fledging synchronous Chain Drive market will now operate to a width of 10mm and a depth of 11mm. Transmission multi-national Gates of the US has been working with Orange in the UK and Carbon Drive Systems of the US, an off-shoot of Spot Bikes. The US Gates factory was producing carbon-corded belts in a different width and pitch to the UK Gates factory.
