About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

A Tour of What’s to Come

by Erin DeBlanc | www.texarkanagazette.com

Local residents on a bike tour converse in an alley behind Broad Street during the Open Alley event Friday in downtown Texarkana. Activated Alley TXK hosted what they called a soft opening in the space between North State Avenue and the Kress Gap, which they hope to transform into an attraction for pedestrians. "This is a collaborative effort," organizer Christopher Bachers said about the development project supported by both cities and Leadership Texarkana. A grand opening is planned for the 150th anniversary of Texarkana’s founding in December 2023.

By Sariah Bonds | www.kltv.com

TYLER, Texas (KLTV) – The Beauty and the Beast Bicycle Tour began this morning, and more than 700 cyclists and abut 1,000 spectators came out to participate in this 34th annual event.

“Its named as such because of the beauty of the wonderful hills in East Texas, but the beast is always that final hill climb that everybody has to do that they love and hate at the same time,” said Bill Lewis, the president of The Tyler Bicycle Club.

He said he got on a bike 10 years ago, joined the bicycle club, beat cancer, and eventually became the president of the club.

“So you just never know where cycling will take you,” Lewis said.

The tour consisted of three different …

Bike Ride To Hamilton Park Splash Pad With Cranky Sikes Lake Geese

Durango Texas | durangotexas.blogspot.com

Today has been the first day in a couple months which has not been extremely windy.

I do not like riding a bike when the wind gusts over 40 mph, which has been the case, of late.

So, on this second Saturday of the 2022 version of May, with the outer world almost in dead calm mode, I let my bike take me on a ride today.

We rolled north on the Circle Trail to Hamilton Park, where a couple kids were …

It’s one of the only sports that truly supports parity of the genders. Men and women race together and share the stage equally AND us amateurs race the same courses the pros do. I was able to meet some pros this weekend and they were all humble and down to earth. pic.twitter.com/rxxRw7Stla

Klunking for Kyle: Commemorating a Life with Mountain Biking’s Original Off-Road Ride

By Mike Cartier | www.singletracks.com

When a community comes together, great things can happen. When a mountain bike community assembles, you get something sincerely special, extremely fun and unlike any other congregation. The cycling scene in and around Austin, Texas has long been strong, but the mountain bike community became more powerful and connected in recent years.

So much so that the first and only lift-accessed bike park, Spider Mountain, in Texas opened in 2019 and has since been a stomping ground for both seasoned and newer, inexperienced riders alike. With the steady increase in places to ride, friends to make and diverse trail systems to visit, it’s inevitable that an increase in fun events, races and general good can spawn from the sport.

Growing up in Texas and learning the sport, I’ve come to meet and ride with many talented and …

These streets, trails, and bike lanes will make you fall in love with the city.

By Daniel Renfrow | www.houstonbcycle.com

The pandemic seems to be petering out now (still put on your mask), and Houston’s biking boom is holding steady. And, believe it or not, Houston is a bikeable city — as courageous and timid cyclists discovered when the mask mandates started in 2020. For the past few years, bike lanes have been slowly inching their way across the city and, in doing so, have turned areas like Downtown, the Museum District, and the East End into burgeoning biking hotspots.

Cycling in Houston is not without its downsides; however, regulars on Houston’s streets know that there’s still a lot of growth needed before the Bayou City can compete with more bike-friendly locales like Austin, Portland, and Seattle. Progress is still progress, though, and per the Houston Bike Plan, adopted in 2017, the city is well on track to continue leveling up on its bike-ability.

Since not all neighborhoods in Houston and its surrounding areas are bike-friendly, …

Video: Organ donors, recipients and families bike to share the importance of helping

By Morgan Riddell | www.kbtx.com

BRENHAM, Texas (KBTX) – When a loved one dies, it can be followed by many questions, decisions, and planning by family. But, one decision can be taken off their plate if it’s talked about soon enough.

A person can choose to be an organ donor by signing up when they get their license, but a family will always be asked about their wishes after a person dies. One group in Texas is working to spread the word about the life-saving decision they made, or someone made to their benefit.

The Lone Star Circle of Life is in the middle of a bike tour around the state, each of the 12 riders being organ recipients, donors, or donor families. The group arrived at their stop in Brenham Wednesday where they met up with a local donor family.
