About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Group A Tour de Zwift Stage 4 Watopia Serpentine 8, I Managed To Hang With Others

Texbiker.net Posted on January 21, 2022 by Rick AnkrumJanuary 21, 2022

It was still chilly outside but inside it was nice and toasty. Stage 4 of the Tour de Zwift was live and I picked the 12 PM start time. Group C route was 10 miles and I wanted to ride longer than that so I chose Group A. The route for Group A was Watopia Serpentine 8, 16.6 miles including the lead-in with a bunch of climbing (for me anyway) at 784 feet. For a change the ride description mileage agreed with what I actually rode. As the starting countdown hit 0 I saw 2190 riders in the data block on the right. I was nowhere near the front and after the lead-in I settled into the 1890 to 1898 spots. Not bad considering it was Group A which rarely ride with because they are much faster than me. Watching the comments before the ride I saw someone mention the route was better suited for gravel bikes than road or MTB. I don’t have a gravel bike in my garage so I changed to the MTB in my garage. I don’t know if it made a difference but there many sections of dirt and dust.

Looking at the results at ZwiftPower.com in Group A I finished at 1170 out of 1203. Group B showed 483 riders, Group C 300, and Group D (women only) 47. I don’t know if only people with ZwiftPower.com logins are counted or everyone.

ZwiftPower.com Stage 4 TdZ results

I previously rode the Serpentine 8 route 4 times and today was number 5. Below is a comparison of the 5.

All bike rides on Zwift Watopia Serpentine 8 route to date

Only 7 segments in Strava for the Serpentine 8. I set a record on 6 of them.

  • PR on Serpentine 8 (51:43)
  • PR on Mayan Bridge Eastbound (3:47)
  • PR on Serpentine 8 Lead-In (12:30)
  • PR on Mayan Bridge Westbound (3:50)

I included the RWGPS map because the climbs look more realistic than Strava’s.

Video: Cyclist concerned about Springfield project affecting bike trail

By Lisely Garza | www.kgns.tv

LAREDO, TX. (KGNS) – As the Springfield Avenue extension project continues to be developed, local cyclists are concerned about what it’s doing to one of Laredo’s nature trails.

Local cycling activist Fernando Baldazo says after being asked where people can ride their bikes in Laredo.

With the expansion project of Springfield Avenue, the project has caused the cycling community to speak out.

Baldazo says, “The Shiloh trail is going through an expansion of Springfield Road, but this expansion couldn’t have come at a worse time. It came at a time when two other cycling parks they had were sold to private owners.”

Baldazo is referring to Los Morales and La Bota Bike Trails which are private property but now have a new owner; unfortunately, the new owners don’t allow them to ride through there.

He says the cycling community has …

WF Community Helps Replace Man’s Stolen Bike

newstalk1290.com

I’ll never understand why some people believe that it’s okay to steal other people’s personal property.

Last Friday, while stopping by Uptown Nutrition, off of Kemp, for a quick drink, Tom Horn’s bike was stolen. This was devastating news for him. Not only is Tom an avid cyclist, but he uses his bicycle as his primary mode of transportation to get around town, and to his job at All American Super Car Wash.

Upon hearing this news, Tom’s family and friends immediately started helping him locate his stolen bike. While many went to social media to ask for help in the matter, one man decided to take a different approach, which turned out to be an enormous success. …

Zwift SZR Recovery Ride: France’s Route Grand Vitesse or High Speed Road

Texbiker.net Posted on January 20, 2022 by Rick AnkrumJanuary 20, 2022

The weather changed big time during the night. From the 70’s and wet yesterday to 42 and overcast with some wind. After chilling out on yesterday’s ride I switched to Zwift for today’s bike ride. This keeps my consecutive bike ride streak active at 20, each day of January. Stage 4 of The Tour de Zwift starts tomorrow so while wait for that I chose the SZR Recovery Ride. 60 minutes on the France Route Grand Vitesse (High Speed Road) started at 12 PM. The w/kg was supposed to be 1.6 – 1.8 but I don’t think that lasted very long. At one point the ride leader, Jean Robert, said 400 flyers off the front out 673. I wasn’t one of the flyers though. It didn’t take long for most everyone to head off even though it looked like I was riding in the prescribed w/kg range. At the finish no one crossed the line with me. I listened to 70’s Radio on Pandora while I rode. A nice beat to keep turning the pedals to.

I’m not sure what the ranking below means but it looks good. I rode in Group D but “A” appears. Interesting that Tom Boonenfanclub was just ahead of me.

This was the fourth time riding this route. A comparison of them.

The route profile gives the impression there wasn’t much climbing but 436 feet over 18.1 miles seems like a lot to my legs. No steep 10% climbs, most were 4 to 5%.

66-mile bike trail connects Fort Worth to Dallas

Rebecca McRobbie | ftwtoday.6amcity.com

Fort Worth was ranked one of the worst places to ride a bike — but a new 66-mile bike trail spanning from downtown Fort Worth to downtown Dallas will give cyclists a safe place to ride long distances.

Fort Worth and Dallas each host 100+ miles of walking and biking trails, but the picturesque paths don’t offer a safe way to get from one city to another. Now that the ‘superhighway’ trail is fully funded, we have a better understanding of how this bike trail will take shape. …

Have any of you rode around Lake Georgetown? Curious what the path is like from BikingATX
