About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Florida performer bikes 3,000 miles to surprise hundreds of friends with a song and dance

www.theweek.com

Billy Flanigan will travel any distance — by bike, no less — to spread cheer to his friends and colleagues.

Flanigan has been an entertainer at Walt Disney World for 38 years, and with the resort closed due to the coronavirus pandemic, he missed being able to sing and dance for people. While on a bike ride, he realized he was near a friend’s house, and …

… Flanigan estimates he has visited about 265 people and logged more than 3,000 miles on his bike since the pandemic began. He has pedaled to see friends who live 90 miles away from his home, and also brought his bike on a road trip so he could surprise pals in California, Texas, and Arizona. "He’s just the perfect example of how a little act of kindness can go a long way," friend Becky Roper said. Catherine Garcia

Hot Ride Through the Texas Hill Country

By Kevin Burrell | www.crazyguyonabike.com

Introduction – June Bike Ride through the Hill Country…. am I crazy?!: Water…. Water… .Water

I think this ride is meant to be done in feb-april when there are beautiful bluebonnets/wildflowers out and about, and temps are in the 60’s/70’s. But my bike wasn’t ready for this timeline and neither was the world with current events escalating. I will attempt a summer ride, trying to start as early in the morning as possible to avoid the 90 + temps.

The Route: Roughly following ACA Adventure Cycling Maps Hill Country Route

Still deciding exact route, may only do a couple days of this route to meet up with some friends for camping. Here is the hill country route general map.

Took some hilly bike paths out of town and got to the main South Austin – San Marcos route. I had done this ride previously, but started earlier, wasn’t loaded with …

I think it's good that we are going to have more safe spaces for bicyclists, at the same time I think that the city – and bicycle organizations – need to support and prioritize projects outside the city center, in overlooked places where more minorities live.

Father’s Day Bike Ride Through Kingwood on The Lynskey R300

Texbiker.net Posted on June 21, 2020 by Rick AnkrumJune 21, 2020

A Father’s Day bike ride on Kingwood Streets and trails was my afternoon pleasure. This was an easy pace bike ride on the Lynskey R300 bike since I already hit 200+ miles for the week. Today I biked 15.61 miles boosting the week to 235.00 miles and June to 678.18 miles. This was the 8th time biking Kingwood streets in 2020 though today I rode on some streets for the first time this year.

6-21-2020 YTD Bike Rides Summary Todays Route

The ride began at 2:01 PM and ended at 3:26 PM. The sky looked threatening at times and I heard thunder at least 2 times but no rain fell on me. Weather during the ride: start 91 (65% humidity, 77.8 dew point), mostly cloudy, wind S 9 mph. Finish 90 (68% humidity, 78.3 dew point), mostly cloudy, wind S 14 mph gusts 20 mph.

A summary of the week’s rides shows early in the week I rode 40+ miles and then dropped back to the 30 mile range to finish the week until today’s 15.61 miles. This week is the 11th in a row of 200+ miles. Year to date I am at 4,117 road miles and 542 Zwift miles. I am at an all time hill for this time of the year.
