About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Get Acquainted Bike Ride to Huffman

Texbiker.net Posted on February 2, 2020 by Rick AnkrumFebruary 2, 2020

Yesterday I took my new Lynskey R300 outside for a PowerPod calibration ride and today I rode the “Atascocita – Walden – Huffman” route to get acquainted with the new bike. Riding 33.77 miles gave me time to compare the Lynskey to my Canyon Endurace CF SLX.

The two bikes ride different and feel different. One of the first things I noticed are the handlebars: the Canyon’s oval bar gives my fingers plenty of area to wrap around while the Lynskey’s round bar is not as generous. Another difference was the gearing. Before the ride I didn’t think to see what the gears were and selected the gears I use on the Canyon and shift up as the ride progresses. I found that my speed was slower than the corresponding rear cog position on the Canyon so I will look at the gears. I think riding the Lynskey I will need to use the big chainring on the crank which I rarely do on the Canyon.

When I started today’s ride I thought the PowerPod was ready to use but it didn’t want to connect to the Wahoo Elemnt computer. What I wrote on the Velocomp forum after the ride.

Yesterday I did an O&B calibration ride and everything looked okay. After the ride I connected the PP to Isaac and it found a new profile but as it downloaded older ride files it kept asking if I wanted to change the ride profile to the new one which I did not because it was not the new bike. I selected “cancel” and the file downloaded and went to the next ride and repeated the process. Is it possible to add another choice like “No”?

I checked the new profile and it had the new sensors’ ANT+ wireless numbers.

Today I took the new bike for its first ride with the PP. I pressed the PP start button after waking the speed and cadence sensors (Wahoo wireless) but it would not connect to the Wahoo Elemnt. I went ahead and started riding hoping the movement would waken the PP. No change. I pressed the PP start button several times and no change. Then I pressed the button 5 times but no success. Then I held the PP start button for about 15 seconds. The PP connected to the Elemnt and worked as expected the rest of the ride. I am not sure what I did but it was frustrating not being able to see what the PP wanted or was doing.

It sure would be helpful if there was an app on my Pixel 3 XL phone that connected to the PP and let me manage it, see what the settings are and add a new bike with sensors. The PP connects to Isaac why not a phone app?

As to be expected the Lynskey and Canyon are different but not a “bad” different. I need more rides on the Lynskey to know how to utilize its features.

Weather during today’s bike ride: start 75 (29% humidity, 40.4 dew point), a few clouds, wind SW 14 mph. Finish 76 (29% humidity, 41.2 dew point), a few clouds, wind S 10 mph. After Zwifting each day this week I was ready for sun and the outside. This was the answer. Monday’s forecast calls for cloudy, 74 and a chance of rain. I plan on riding the Lynskey R300 for more learning.

I saw several other cyclists today. One pair I saw twice, once each time I was riding on W. Lake Houston Parkway as they whizzed by me in there green and black with red taillights blinking.

PLANO, Texas — Shannon Catalano will never forget the day her grandmother asked for a bike ride.

The Plano resident, 41, said her late grandmother, Margie Wood, suffered from dementia and spent the last part of her life in memory care.

This ride is for beginner/intermediate riders. It is easy terrain, but a long ride and we cross a major intersection. This ride is almost eight miles in and back out. The trail is paved, mostly wooded, and has some slight inclines in elevation.

The trail crosses Barker Cypress and we will continue to Highway 6 where we turn around and bike out. Until we get to Daylight Savings Time, we need to start at 5 pm so we are done by 6 pm. After we switch to DST, we can start later. …

ADAB Profile #2: Dena Kinate — This Wild Horse Just Wants to Roam Free (Part 2)

A DUDE ABIKES | adudeabikes.com

Dena on a trip back east. Photos supplied by Dena. ZZ Top didn’t write that song about her, but she can go on a long ride of 75 miles or more at will. Nowadays, she’ll go on a few rides here and there, sometimes with a group, but often just her. Mostly Dena just rides to stay thin and fit. She just turned 36 and is aware she’s not getting any younger. When asked about any hardships she has had on the bicycle, she said none really, but tapped her head. “It’s up here,” she said. For her, biking is a way to get out her aggression. Minnesota was fully of people who were fake nice, but here in …

Tour de Zwift Stage 6 Race Richmond UCI Worlds

Texbiker.net Posted on February 1, 2020 by Rick AnkrumFebruary 1, 2020

This course brings back memories. In 2015 my wife and I attended the UCI World races in Richmond. Racing today I saw the spot where we stood near the finish line when Peter Sagan won his first title. I didn’t come near his performance but I appreciate his effort more now. The race started at 11:13 AM for Group D and covered 10.3 miles. The course had flat sections but also some steep climbs of 10% to 20% but not long ones. I added another camera to the video showing me pedaling my Blue Norcross AL bike as I raced around in Zwift.

According to Zwift, 470 Zwifters registered for all of the groups with 192 in Group D. I finished 114th in 31:49 averaging 180 watts over the 10.3 mile course.

ZwiftPower.com showed results for 37 racers with accounts there. I took 25th place. My race data.

2-1-2020 Tour de Zwift Stage 6 ZwiftPower Results

After the race while I was still sweaty I decided to take the Lynksey R300 outside for the PowerPod calibration out and back ride rather than do it on Sunday. The weather was chilly but I dressed for it. The leg warmers wanted to slide down my legs as I pedaled because I didn’t tuck them under my shorts like I usually do. Now I can ride on Sunday without bothering with the O&B ride. Sunday’s weather forecast says 77 degrees and partly cloudy.
