Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Family donates bikes to Dallas police to thank them for a special friendship

Tucker Burns was out at White Rock Lake most days, and she formed friendships with members of Dallas police’s Bike Unit. In her memory, Burns’ family gave back.

01 Dec 2019 8:00 AM It’s the first Sunday in December, so it’s time for another Houston Sans Car. Should be a beautiful day in the neighborhoods. This is an informal, leader led ride, at an easy pace (Ride speed: 11 – 14 mph) for those who want to see parts of Houston and many of its special places by bike. Meet at 8:00 a.m. at Stude Park. The rest stop will be at one of the city’s independent coffee houses, so if you like coffee, and want to ride through some interesting neighborhoods, this is the ride for you. Total distance is around 20 miles.

Stude Park is on Usener St. near Michaux St. The nearest large cross streets are White Oak and Studemont.

Crime Stoppers: Male accused of robbing South Side Bike World, threatening manager

San Antonio police and Crime Stoppers are asking for the public’s help with information leading to the identification of a male accused of robbing a South Side bike store.

Police said the incident occurred at around 5:30 p.m. Nov. 2 at the Bike World located at 835 Southeast Military Dr. Police said the male entered the location and attempted to conceal several items he removed from a sales display.

The male walked out of the store without paying for the items and threatened to assault the manager if he attempted to stop him, police said.


Rainey Street to be temporarily closed to motor vehicles

AUSTIN (KXAN) — A pilot program to test the temporary closure of Rainey Street prohibiting motor vehicles is outlined in a memo from the Austin Transportation Department on Tuesday. The program aims to determine the effects on mobility and safety in the area.

During the pilot period, Rainey Street from Davis Street will be closed to motor traffic Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings from 9:00 p.m. to 2:30 a.m. The pilot period will last from Dec. 5 to March 8, 2020.

Johnson County Medical Society sponsors Hard Hats for Little Heads

A group of Santa Fe Elementary School students have received some special safety equipment through the efforts of the Johnson County Medical Society and the Hard Hats for Little Heads project.

Local physicians, in partnership with the Texas Medical Association program, have fitted 100 “little heads” at the campus with bicycle safety helmets. The helmet giveaway took place during Santa Fe’s weekly morning rally.
