About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

One door closes, and a rabbit hole opens

tcs | www.bikeforums.net/texas

UT should implement the Bicycle Advisory Council’s proposal for bikers’ safety

BY ASHVIN GOVIL | dailytexanonline.com

Cars. Buses. Bikes. Scooters. The forms of transportation students use to get around UT range from 15 pounds to 15 tons, yet they are forced to share the road with each other in many places around campus.

The public hazard roads without bike lanes presents to cyclists culminated in tragedy for one biker on San Jacinto Boulevard this January. A collision with a CapMetro bus led to the on-campus death of a bicyclist.

San Jacinto Boulevard has become the center of a new debate on campus: bike safety. As a result of the cyclist’s death, many students and activists are calling for new bike lanes to be …

Success! Construction Starts On Hardy And Elysian

bikehouston.org

BikeHouston initiated the Build 50 Challenge last year in late April. We challenged the City of Houston, Harris County, Metro, Houston Parks Board, and others to work together to build 50 miles of bikeway in 12 months. Since then, Mayor Sylvester Turner and Commissioner Rodney Ellis agreed to the challenge and both city and county have been racing to develop a bikeways program since. So where are we?

Currently almost 28 miles are under construction or complete across the city. Most of this mileage came from the Houston Parks Board developing mixed-use trails along our Bayou Greenways. Below you’ll find an overview of on-street improvements in the core of our city. …
