Beauty and the Beast Bike Tour – Tyler TX

25, 40, 50 and 62 mile courses through beautiful East Texas hills, including one hill we call “The Beast”. Join us for a fun, challenging, fully supported bike tour, including after ride showers and pizza!”

Register online or mail in your registration before March 14, 2009 and the entry fee is just $25.

The tour will begin at 9:00 a.m. from Chapel Hill High School located at 13172 Hwy 64 E., Tyler, Texas. There will be a free Kid’s Race, post-ride pizza for all entrants, T-shirts, goody bag, plenty of parking, and no long lines. This tour was featured in the May, 1999 issue of Bicycling Magazine. It is one of the best supported tours with many flaggers, rest stops, and sag support. Course distances vary from 12 to 64 miles with the longest distance ascending the ferocious “Beast” of a hill!   1. Quite poor road support. No volunteers at critical turn points. Talked to quite a few veteran riders, like myself, that missed turn offs due to lack of markings or no support people. Probably won’t do this ride again, even though the scenery was quite nice.

  2. Sorry to hear about the support. I was briefly thinking of riding but other plans got in the way. This ride has been around for many years (I have a poster from 1992 on my wall) but over the years the organizers and supporters has changed many times. I remember when the ride started at the Rose Garden on the west side of downtown and the routes wove through Tyler past the beautiful azaleas before heading out of town. Even the Beast hill moved from north of Tyler to southeast.
