About Texbiker.netTexbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling. My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there. Thanks to my wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.
In 1999 Texbiker.net was born to help my fellow bikers have ready access to all of the information about the Texas bicycling scene.

January Mileage Wrapup
I made my goal and then some for January. I was shooting to beat my 209 January average miles and ended up at 294 total. I even got a good start on beating my February monthly average of 249 with 27 miles for February 1st. While the last week of January was not without its weather challenges I still managed two riding days and only one windtrainer ride. This brings my year to date miles up to 321.
We had a reminder this week to make our hotel reservations for the Hotter’n Hell Hundred thinking it would be early enough but my wife ended up calling most of the hotels in Wichita Falls before finding a room at the Candlewood. Last year we waited too long and ended staying in Henrietta to the south of Wichita Falls. The hotel was nice but the 20 minute drive into town was not very convenient. I spotted a note on the Hotter’n Hell Hundred website that registration for 2009 has been opened. I am not sure why it is necessary to register this early but someone may want a low number or entry into the race.
February weather can fickle in southeast Texas so I will have to grab each mile when the opporunity comes by. I did see a number of riders today on my ride. Most were heading back as I was going out. I almost got caught by rain as it started to sprinkle minutes after I got back from my ride.
