I did a lot of riding these two days in Wichita Falls. When I got home and was taking my front tire out of the Jeep I noticed it was soft from losing air. Partially relieved and also perturbed I set it aside to look at later after we unpacked and got things in order. When I inspected the tire I found one goat head thorn sticking out of the sidewall not far from the valve stem. I am not sure when I got this but maybe it was during this morning’s ride. I do not remember getting into the grass but maybe it was in the road. Back before my first Hotter’n Hell 100 I read about how these thorns could wreak havoc on riders and over the years I have managed to avoid them most of the time. I have seen people walking their bike with several clinging to their tires.
Below are the charts and maps for these two days. (Click on any picture to enlarge it.)
Today’s ride was a short one to keep my legs moving and to get the miles for the week up to 158.28.
Rather than recap all of the statistics the important ones are August miles 569.32 and the YTD miles 3677.79.
The video is a recap of the ride. I need to apologize for the poor camera work when I was riding through Sheppard Air Force Base and the airmen were cheering. I was waving the camera in response to their cheering.
