LBJ 100 Bicycle Tour – Stonewall, TX — 1 Comment

  1. From Nolan Kuehn
    Chair, LBJ 100 Bicycle Tour
We had our kick-off meeting last week at the LBJ Visitor Center in Johnson City for next year’s LBJ 100. I’m really pumped up regarding next year’s event; We will be tweaking a few things, and hopefully we will have an increased attendance. This year, in our third year of operation, we drew 1089 riders, so I think we were already doing a lot of things right. I want our ride to be the premier ride in the Texas Hill Country in the spring.

The date is Sat., March 26, and we will soon have our ride web site up and running with info for next year. We had a post-ride meal this year, and we intend to continue it for next year. I have also been talking to David King, the Texas State Captain for the Wheelmen, a national organization focusing on antique bicycles (prior to 1919), about Wheelmen making an appearance in period costume, and doing one of our routes (probably the 10-mile). The “tag line” for our ride is “A Ride to Preserve History”. Given the fact the Luci Baines Johnson conducts a riding tour of historical landmarks on the LBJ Ranch in the afternoon (included in registration price), and the fact that we use three, rural, restored Gillespie County schools as rest stops, I feel the words are appropriate. The appearance of the Wheelmen will further this sense of history. Plus, we just have some great scenic routes!
