New Bike Day Finally Arrived. Only One Redo
The new bike day finally arrived. I finished setting up the bike yesterday evening. I received the Canyon Endurace CF 7 All-Road Rival eTap on June 4th and have been adding the finishing touches as the parts arrived. The video goes over the various parts I added or changed. The tires look very wide compared to the 28c ones on my other bikes. I wasn’t sure how they would ride. Would they feel heavy and hard to get up to speed? All three bikes have the same drive train, crankset gears, and cassette gears for the least mental work shifting.
With summer heat in the forecast and an afternoon appointment I wanted to start the ride early, before 9 AM. I just made it rolling out at 8:59 AM. I also wanted to allow time for any adjustments that needed to be made. The only problem I had was the seat post sliding down. I stopped several times, went back home a couple of times before getting it to stay in position after applying the paste Canyon provided and tightening the setscrew extra. Near the end of the ride the handlebar rotated a little when I rode over a bump. I fixed that and was back riding and finished at 112:14 PM.
Not knowing what I might encounter on the initial ride I chose the New Caney – Roman Forest Blvd – Oakhurst route with the option to change it if anything happened. No route change though the early miles included going back home to fix the seat post. I biked 34.29 miles, a little more than usual for the route with those trips back home. The average distance is about 33 miles. The wider tires rode well, enough that I ordered the parts to make up the original wheelset for the Cervelo Caledonia with 700x32c tires. A major difference is the quietness of the freewheel on the Canyon compared to my other bikes. I think the original wheelset for the Cervelo will be quieter too.
I stopped at Valley Ranch Parkway under TX 99 and took these photos.
