About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

KATY, Texas – With the help of volunteers and some specialized equipment, about 30 kids are learning to do something they otherwise may not have been able to: ride a bike.
It’s 8-year-old Gabriel Marquez’s first time successfully riding a bicycle. It’s a big deal for his mom, Talina, given his autism.
“It’s kind of hard for him to socialize with other kids because the other kids want to do the things that they are able to do while …

Royal Brook – Oakhurst – Forest Cove Bike Ride

Texbiker.net Posted on July 9, 2017 by Rick AnkrumJuly 9, 2017

A new route name for today’s bike ride but most of the roads are ones I ridden before. Time for some variety riding my Blue Norcross AL on the “Royal Brook – Oakhurst – Forest Cove” route for 25.2 miles ending the week with 189.9 miles. If I rode one more day I would’ve crossed into 200+ miles but the days off were important ones. For July I am at 250 miles leaving 550 miles to hit my goal.

Royal Brook is a new village in Kingwood so I thought it was time to ride there and then take Ford Road to Loop 494. In Royal Brook I stopped and took these pictures.

Bike Ride Royal Brook biking riding
Bike Ride Royal Brook biking riding

The bridge in the center goes across a ravine and then to a side street. The little white thing on the right side of the bridge railing is a sign stating the capacity is 2 tons. Not sure how 2 tons would get on it but people do the darnedest things.

After the stopping for pictures I rode into a subdivision north of Royal Brook that has been there for several decades. My plan was to take the street to Ford Road that is where Ford Road turns left but I misjudged the streets and came out onto Ford Road about 1/4 mile south of the bend. I wanted to be at the bend in case the traffic was heavy. I haven’t biked on Ford Road in awhile and with Royal Brook having many new houses I thought the traffic could be heavier. The traffic from Colony Forest to Loop 494 was heavier but everyone gave me plenty of room when they passed. I will consider biking this way again.

Once on Loop 494 I stayed there to Community Drive where I went west to I-69/US59 to turn south. I rode through a portion of Valley Ranch on the way to Briar Tree and Oakhurst on roads I take many times. After getting through Oakhurst I biked through Kingwood Place and then back to the service road to Sorters Road and then Hamblen Road in Forest Cove. Hamblen Road is narrow and bumpy but the traffic was light and except for a red Corvette the few cars gave me space. The Corvette was in a hurry and couldn’t wait for an oncoming car to pass to have some extra space in that lane. I could’ve touched the Corvette as he went by.

From there to the end no traffic problems as I rode on familiar streets. After starting the ride at 12:15 I finished at 2:14.

With the later start it was hot, 95 degrees, under mostly cloudy skies and a 5 mph south breeze. More good weather to bike tomorrow.

Neely said after his dad retired he would always help him along the way while he rode, so he felt like this was the perfect way to help hospice in his memory.
Hospice of Wichita Falls took care of both of Dail Neely’s parents.

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — Pictures of their journey read like a travel book of the United States. The three brothers are a long way from Texas right now as they talked with ABC13 via Skype from a Pennsylvania hotel.

City of Denton receives $1.5 million award for bicycle and pedestrian projects

by James Norman | ntdaily.com

Bike lane Denton TX
The City of Denton was awarded funds in mid-June from TxDOT through the North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG) for three pedestrian and bicycle projects, which will begin construction next summer.
The award will pay for $1.5 million of the projects’ cost, or 80 percent. The projects’ total cost is estimated to be around $1.9 million.
“This just allows us to do bigger projects,” said Julie Anderson, the City of Denton’s bicycle and pedestrian coordinator. “We’re going to get a $1.9 million project and we only have to pay $280,000. We get more …
