About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

“It’s a wonderful just kind of invaluable experience for practicing leadership and teamwork. And working with …

A Cooler Memorial Day Bike Ride

Texbiker.net Posted on May 29, 2017 by Rick AnkrumMay 29, 2017

I rode a Memorial Day bike ride on the “Kingwood – SH 242 – Kingwood” route totaling 34.39 miles. The sky looked threatening early in the morning but by the time I started (11:40 AM) the overcast sky was not so bad. From yesterday’s 93 degrees it dropped to 72 degrees when I started making me pull a long sleeve jersey from the closet. In the early miles I felt a chill but once I warmed up I probably could’ve worn a short sleeve jersey. Finishing at 2:10 PM the temperature improved to 79 degrees with the humidity not far from that (75%) making for a muggy ride.

Today’s miles put me over my May goal of 300 miles by 10.66 miles. If the weather cooperates I hope to add more miles.

Nothing out of the ordinary during the bike except for the flags displayed at many homes. There were a few “casual” bikers on the bike paths along the route. I used the new roads riding through Woodridge Forest. I wondered how they would be after last night’s rain but I didn’t see any difference from the last time.

Log a cycling milestone with Lance Armstrong at WeDu Texas Hundred

Armstrong and I are riding part of the course of the upcoming WeDu Texas Hundred, the first Texas event wearing the brand of the former professional cyclist’s latest project, WeDu. The roads unravel without the buzz of …

Cycling on the Circuit of the Americas F1 Track

by Spoke | www.bikeforums.net

Living just outside of Austin, TX, I took advantage of a special 10 week program of open cycling on the Circuit of the Americas F1 track in Austin, TX. Where Did the Heat Come From Bike Ride

Texbiker.net Posted on May 28, 2017 by Rick AnkrumMay 28, 2017

Starting today’s bike ride at 12:25 PM put me in the heat of the day. Summer like temperatures popped up in the forecast and 93 degrees meant no need for a long sleeve jersey bicycling the “Atascocita – Walden – Huffman” route. I rode my Blue Norcross AL bike for a total of 31.41 miles boosting May to 276.27 miles, 24 miles away from my goal. I pedaled hard on the ride due to the strong SE wind (15 mph with 25 mph gusts) until I turned left onto FM 2100 bicycling to Huffman where I took a 15 minute break to fill my water bottle and rest before heading west for the remaining 11+ miles.

Mostly cloudy skies held the sun at bay but not the heat. If it stays like this I will start wearing wrist bands to hold the sweat back from my gloves.

Knobby tires on the Blue Norcross AL add a whirling sound to the ride but raises the tire above the pavement about 1/4″ maybe reducing the chance for a flat as I bike on the debris filled shoulder on FM 1960. The causeway over Lake Houston seems to be a magnet for all kinds of trash. No flats today.

Many U. S. flags out along the route as Memorial Day is tomorrow.

More heat tomorrow but since the Giro d’Italia is over I may start the ride earlier in the day.

Two weeks ago today I was biking in the Florida Keys, Key Largo to Marathon.
