Slow start to the morning, in the road at 10.30. I rang an RV park, Artesian Park, which is a little east of Button to ask if they had campsites and the owner said I could stay for free. Amazing people.
The ride today was all along highway 290 so nothing particularly exciting to see. There were great bike paths out of the city and generally the road was good apart from between 20 and 30 miles out of the city there were areas where the shoulder became non existent with a fair bit of traffic. Monday morning, a group of cyclists’ will trek their way across the Texas landscape.
They’ll travel 500 miles in five days.
On Monday, ‘Ride Texas’, a 24-man cycling team will begin their journey through Texas.
“We’ll start here tomorrow in Wichita Falls and we will finish on Friday–Veterans Day–in Corpus Christi,” said Jeff Wells, president of Wish for Our Heroes.
