About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Texas’s Newest Mountain Bike Park Was Built by a Fearless Teen Entrepreneur

By Aaron Chamberlain | www.texasmonthly.com

At Station Mountain Bike Park, Rhett Jones created the serpentine trails and daring jumps of his dreams.

On a sunny Sunday afternoon a few weeks ago, my fourteen-year-old son and I pulled into the newest mountain bike park in Central Texas—Station Mountain, in the hilly lakeside hamlet of Marble Falls—with slight trepidation on my part. Though I spend a lot of time on my bike and once traversed the 3,014-mile perimeter of Texas, I prefer to stick to roads of asphalt or gravel. Luckily we weren’t there to put on a demonstration, just to preview the park and chat with its teenage owner and creator, Rhett Jones.

After speaking with Jones, we climbed to the top of the park on our bikes via the shuttle road that bisects the 129-acre property. Actually, my son ditched me halfway up to check out the jump lines near the bottom. After snapping a …

Top 10 must-do US gravel races in 2024

Logan Jones-Wilkins | www.globalcyclingnetwork.com

From Arizona to Oklahoma and everywhere in between, we looked high and low for the best US gravel races – here are 10 we believe you should check out … Gravel Locos – May 18

Location: Hico, Texas

Distances: 150 miles (6,700 feet), 100 miles, 60 miles, 30 miles

Website: Gravel Locos

Registration: $185, spots available

Gravel Locos, on the other hand, is the gravel race in the US that might have the biggest emphasis on the professional side of things. It is, unapologetically, the pre-Unbound test for many riders. In turn, Gravel Locos reflects the race in a number of ways.

First off, its long course is a full 150 miles and, like Kansas, those miles are often done in hot, humid conditions. Secondly, it doesn’t have long climbs, only small, but repetitive punches that each rider must weather. Third, and especially for the elites, the field has all the same favourites that will travel to …

Sweet Trails and Stunning Views at my Favorite State Park // Garner State Park Mountain Biking

Chenzo’s World | www.youtube.com

oday I’m exploring the MTB trails s at one of the most popular state parks in Texas. Garner state park is known for its gorgeous rolling hills, excellent hiking trails, awesome campsites and stunning views along the Frio river. Like most people, when I think of Garner, I usually think of camping, fishing and hiking adventures. But, if you’re a mountain bike lover like myself, you’ll be happy to know that garner state park also offers miles of single track and double track along its rolling hills and scenic creek beds. I had an absolute blast riding the rocky technical terrain out here and I hope this video gives you some insight when planning your next Texas mountain biking adventure.

Exploring indieVelo So Near Yet So Far World And Route

Texbiker.net Posted on November 22, 2023 by Rick AnkrumNovember 22, 2023

On the road I like to try different roads and streets. Very different virtual ride today. I tried to install MyWhoosh on my computer but it wouldn’t run because of a missing DLL file. I switched to another virtual biking platform indieVelo that I heard about on YouTube. It is in advanced beta now but I applied to try it out and was accepted. In some ways indieVelo looks like Zwift but in many ways it is different. I worked my way through the various menu steps setting up my profile, created my avatar, pairing the smart trainer and sensors. No problem doing all of that. I looked at the various free ride routes selecting the So Near Yet So Far one for 22.7 miles and 411 feet elevation gain. I didn’t know what to expect and the climbing was my level.

Using Rouvy a year or two ago not many riders passed by. IndieVelo’s nearest riders varied from 1200 to over 2000 and several large groups passed going the opposite direction. I may have them in the video. The video doesn’t cover the entire ride. I paused the recording when the ride was going through flat roads and resumed with around 4.9 miles remaining to show the end.

No Rebel Route This time. Zwift Watopia Sugar Cookie Route

Texbiker.net Posted on November 21, 2023 by Rick AnkrumNovember 21, 2023

After the rebel route ride yesterday I chose a regular route with the turns auto selected. I rode many of the same roads though. Today I rode the Watopia Sugar Cookie route (my grandmother made the best sugar cookies) for the second time. Looking at the summary the ride stats are almost identical: distance, time, average speed, and elevation gain. The difference was today’s Strava top results: PR on Epic KOM – Start to Bypass Intersection (10:07), PR on Epic KOM Bypass – Westbound (4:41), PR on Sugar Cookie (1:20:08), and 2nd fastest time on Woodland Sprint (45s). The previous ride was .03 seconds faster overall. I went by the area where I probably made the wrong turns yesterday and maybe saw what happened.

11-21-2023 SportTracks Rides Summary Zwift Watopia Sugar Cookie

Outside the weather changed from yesterday’s warm weather during the night to cloudy, 58 degrees, and very windy. A good day to ride Zwift!
