About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Dallas’ Newest Mountain Bike Trail is Open Near the White Rock Lake Spillway

By Tim Rogers | www.dmagazine.com

Dallas just got a new mountain bike park all thanks to the Loop, DORBA, and the Dallas Parks and Recreation Department. Let’s keep it to ourselves.

A new mountain bike trail opened today in East Dallas. Five miles of dirt track twist and turn through 50 wooded acres of the aptly named Creekside Park, which nestles up to White Rock Creek, about a mile south of the lake’s spillway. Credit goes to no fewer than three organizations: the Loop Dallas, which is building a 50-mile circuit around the city and operates a concrete trail that runs beside the park; the Dallas Park and Recreation Department, which should be obvious; and the Dallas Off-Road Bicycle Association, aka DORBA, the 35-year-old nonprofit whose volunteer army has built and maintains more than 30 trails and parks across North Texas.

This is the first track DORBA has built in Dallas in 15 years. It’s also the first time DORBA has brought in an out-of-state trail design and construction company. Singletrack Trails, based in Colorado, cut …

Round the Block: The last leg

By Curtis Stoker | www.crazyguyonabike.com

Day 24 – Marfa to Marithon, TX

Monday October 16, 2023, 57 miles (92 km) – Total so far: 1,215 miles (1,955 km) We must be getting to fall even in the south. It was a cold morning this morning. Probably about 44 degrees. Everyone was wearing about everything they had to stay warm. I think over the next few days, we will be dropping in elevation so that should help. At the time of writing this it is quite cold as well. The weather app says 54.

Had a nice day of riding today. Still riding through the Del Norte mountain ranges of Texas. We rode about 27 miles and went through the resort town of Alpine and then had another 30 or so miles after that. They did have a McDonald’s in Alpine, so had to stop and get some lunch there. I probably need to …

It Shouldn’t Be This Cool, Its Still Fall. Thermal Jersey Required.

Texbiker.net Posted on October 17, 2023 by Rick AnkrumOctober 17, 2023

Today I was back outside to ride after riding Zwift yesterday. This morning when I woke up it was 43 degrees. It hasn’t been this cold since spring time. With the help of the sun it warmed up enough for me to start biking at 11:56 AM. To combat the chill I wore a long sleeve thermal jersey under a short sleeve jersey. My legs weren’t happy until about 15 minutes into the ride when the body heat offset the coolness. Fortunately the strong wind from yesterday left and a light breeze was all I had to pedal into. Nothing out of the ordinary for most of the ride until Atascocita Shores Drive on the way back. A crew was sawing the concrete, probably for traffic light sensors. It was noisy but not too messy. This was the 17th bike ride on the Atascocita – Walden – Huffman route in 2023. Today I rode my Cervelo Caledonia bike for 34.89 miles finishing at 2:33 PM.

Everything Went Haywire. Wandering Watopia Without A Plan

Texbiker.net Posted on October 16, 2023 by Rick AnkrumOctober 16, 2023

I went back and forth on whether to ride outdoors or indoors because the temperature was in the low 60’s and the wind was from the north at 16 mph with 22 mph gusts. It was sunny but not enough to offset the wind chill so I opted for Zwift. The plan was to use RoadCaptain route builder to select a route and RoadCaptain Runner along with Zwift to direct my ride on the ZwiftInsider Rebel Route: The Snake. Watopia was the world and the ride began taking a reverse turn on the Big Loop course, 51.6km and 334.6m of climbing. Not too much for a flatlander. I started RoadCaptain Runner and then Zwift. Opening the Zwift companion app on my phone I tried to connect the Wahoo Kickr Core trainer, cadence, and heart rate monitor but it wouldn’t connect. I thought the problem was with my phone but after trying 3 different phones the solution was restarting my Windows 11 desktop computer. All this took about an hour. I could’ve given up and rode outdoors but after all of the problem solving I decided to ride Zwift.

With RoadCaptain Runner open I started the ride waiting for instructions from RoadCaptain Runner to appear. The only directions was to start on Big Loop Reverse but there isn’t a Big Loop Reverse. I decided this meant to reverse my direction at the start of Big Loop which I did. No more instructions showed. I decided to continue but make turn choices as they came up. My criteria was to avoid any turn with KOM or looked like climbing might happen. The first several turns I didn’t remember but at 2.7 miles I began taking screenshots of most of the turns.

Turns and mile point:

  • 2.7 miles left on Sprint
  • 3.2 miles right on Bridge/Islands
  • 3.4 miles right on Islands
  • 3.5 miles left on Islands
  • 4.8 miles straight on Sequoia Circle
  • 5.6 miles straight to Downtown
  • 8.0 miles straight on Sprint
  • 9.4 miles straight to 360 Bridge
  • 9.9 miles straight to 360 Bridge
  • 10.2 miles left to Italian Villas/Sprint
  • 10.7 miles straight to 360 Bridge
  • 11.1 miles right on Sequoia Circle
  • 12.4 miles straight on Sequoia Circle
  • 13.2 miles straight to Downtown
  • 14.4 miles right to Desert Flats
  • 15.2 miles straight on Desert Flats
  • 21.6 miles left on Desert Turnaround
  • 21.9 miles right on Desert Flats

I finished on Fuego Flats at 26.74 miles.
