About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Author: Deevon Rahming | www.khou.com

Logan Dark was killed while trying to bike across South Mason Road on his way to Cinco Ranch High School nearly two weeks ago.

Morzhueva organized a ride through the community Sunday in honor of Logan. …

Woodlands Biking Group Crashes in Dobbin

By: Ruben Borjas Jr | www.woodlandsonline.com

DOBBIN, TX – Saturday mornings heading West on Hwy 105 can be hectic even without gameday weekends. But with Texas A&M fans going to tailgating festivities for the big game, plus numbers being doubled this week with Alabama visiting in College Station, the roads can become especially dangerous. Unfortunately drivers were delayed just before the bridge in Dobbin, when debris on the shoulder caused several riders in a group from The Woodlands to tumble. Traffic was backed up several miles in both directions.

The accident happened at 9:34 am, when the lead two riders traveling East on 105 were downed with bumps and bruises. One rider sustained facial injuries that bloodied his face, the other with other injuries.

There was some sort of debris on the road shoulder, said one rider, who only identified himself as Wayne. “We …

Fall Cool, Bridge Opening Closer, 2 Strava Top Results Biking To Tavola

Texbiker.net Posted on October 9, 2023 by Rick AnkrumOctober 9, 2023

More cool temperatures when I woke up this morning. While waiting for it to warm up a little more I watched stage 2 of the Tour of Turkey and a YouTube video. The bike ride rolled away at 10:28 AM with me aboard my Canyon Endurace bike using the ICAN cycling Alpha Pro 46 carbon wheels after using the DT Swiss wheels last week. The route went north through Porter, New Caney and into Tavola. The bridge over Caney Creek on Loop 494 looks almost complete with the stripes on the asphalt and the construction equipment almost gone. On the way back I rode through Tavola on the west side of US59 for the second time. This gets me around a section of the frontage road where the barriers block the shoulder leaving a short ride to the end of barriers rather than a longer ride. Most of this bike ride was in Montgomery County except for the first 5 miles and the last 4 miles. I’m riding to make up for the lost miles from the rain and trying to catch up with YTD miles of 2022 which I trail by 89 miles. Today’s ride of 38.12 miles helped but more to go. Two Strava results, one intentional (local legend) and one not: Local Legend on Kris Spraggins Memorial Route and 2nd fastest time on Kris Spraggins Memorial Route (2:26). The trip into Tavola west made the distance above the 2023 average for the New Caney – Tavola – Valley Ranch route of 37 miles. Weather: Start 73 degrees, humidity 52%, dew point 54.1, a few clouds, wind calm; Finish 80 degrees, humidity 39%, dew point 53.1, a few clouds, wind SW 6 mph. Link to the AXS.SRAM.com ride report.

Kingwood – Forest Cove – San Jacinto Bayou Greenway

Texbiker.net Posted on October 8, 2023 by Rick AnkrumOctober 8, 2023

When my alarm went off this morning I checked the weather and found winter had arrived, it was 51 degrees and when it is below 60 I think its winter. I hoped it would warm up by the time I got home from church. It did warm up by the time I started the ride at 2:11 PM to 73 degrees. With the stout wind I wore a long sleeve jersey and a short sleeve one as I rode my Lynskey Helix bike. I wanted to ride at least 23 miles to not lose any ground on reaching my 700 mile goal for October. I wanted to ride a route different from last Sunday and came up with Kingwood – Forest Cove – San Jacinto Bayou Greenway. No new streets but in a different combination. When I finished at 4:08 PM I biked 23.93 miles improving the week’s total to 154.45 miles, just a little bit behind the pace for my goal. Two days of rain this week kept me indoors. The weather forecast calls for warmer weather and maybe rain towards the end of the week.

Weather conditions: Start 73 degrees, humidity 39%, dew point 46.6, clear, wind E 8 mph gusts 24 mph; Finish 73 degrees, humidity 40%, dew point 47.6, mostly cloudy, wind gusts 24 mph.
