About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Northside ‘spokespeople’ seek improved bike trails in Fort Worth

by Cristian ArguetaSoto | fortworthreport.org

One bike route from Northside to the Trinity Trails involves a gravel path on a steep incline, another crosses a busy intersection at Northeast 23rd Street, Decatur Avenue and Samuels Avenue, and the last requires cyclists to cross railroad tracks in a commercial corridor.

Noe Guevara, an avid cyclist, lives in Northside Fort Worth and said there is a lack of safe routes to and from the river trails.

“People in Northside are the ones that I ride with. They rarely ever take off from their houses. …

Wheel Change Makes A Difference

Texbiker.net Posted on October 2, 2023 by Rick AnkrumOctober 2, 2023

Changing the wheels on a bike can make a big difference in how the bike rides and handles. I did that today on my Canyon Endurace bike. I replaced the ICAN Cycling Alpha Pro 46 wheels with the DT Swiss Endurance LN wheels and tires that came with the bike. The tires are Schwalbe G-One RS 700x35mm, a big change from the GatorSkin 700x28mm on the Alpha Pro 46 wheels. I aired them up to 60 psi compared to 80 psi for the GatorSkins. One drawback, toe overlap with the front tire. This happened with the GatorSkin tire but the tip of my shoe barely touched the tire when the wheel turned with the pedal all the way forward. On the Schwalbe tire the overlap was more which can cause a crash if I don’t turn the wheel or rotate the pedal out of the way. This happened twice but I recovered quickly with no crash. The lower pressure and wider tire changed the feel of the ride reducing bumps harshness. The cobbles on Rock Creek Drive weren’t as bumpy. It took more effort to get up to speed but once I reached the speed I wanted the bike rolled with less pedal effort. I plan on keeping them on the Canyon Endurace for this week’s rides, at least.

A late start for the ride leaving at 10:02 AM coinciding with today’s date. I rode north following my Kingwood – FM1485 – Kingwood route with a few small changes to increase the distance to 33.46 miles, slightly more than the average for the previous 15 rides in 2023. My October goal is 700 road miles. I’ll see if the weather cooperates. Its beginning to feel a little like fall. Weather: Start 82 degrees, humidity 67%, dew point 69.6, partly cloudy, wind NE 10 mph; Finish 89 degrees, humidity 44%, dew point 64.6, a few clouds, wind E 13 mph gusts 22 mph. The wind on the way back to Kingwood was from my left which didn’t pose a problem but I could tell it was stronger than earlier in the ride. I didn’t know how much until I finished at 12;51 PM.

"Bike lanes faced a barrage of criticism from all candidates Friday night. Kaplan said Houston is still car-centric and “bikers shouldn’t control the city.” Khan agreed, adding that the current patchwork of dedicated bike lanes also present safety risks."

Cool Running 1/4 Notch Recon at Brushy Creek on a REI Coop DRT 1.1

Just Me MTB | www.youtube.com

Drove by many times doing other trails, but this is my first time on 1/4 Notch. I really like this one especially the flowy downhills and curvy flats. Some technical stuff, small drops and deceptive uphills that look flat, nevertheless, it was a cool ride and look forward to getting good on this one!. I haven’t rode my bike in 3 weeks cause I was out of town, and I feel it! Gains of the summer, lost quickly. I will hit this one hard and get back to previous level for a good timed trial video.

Kingwood Streets Ride, 200+ Mile Week

Texbiker.net Posted on October 1, 2023 by Rick AnkrumOctober 1, 2023

Today’s bike ride began after I got home from church. It started at 1:47 PM riding my Lynskey Helix bike. By then it was hot but the lower humidity and dew point blunted the heat some. Adding the strong wind and it didn’t feel that bad. I tried to duplicate last Sunday’s route on Kingwood streets but I added a couple of extra streets, a loop into East End Park, and a longer loop through Royal Brook ending with 19.8 miles. This was enough for a 200+ mile week despite not riding on Monday. Weather: 94 degrees, 41% humidity, dew point 65.2, partly cloudy, wind E 14 mph gusts 25 mph; Finish 92 degrees, 40% humidity, dew point 64.4, partly cloudy, wind E 15 mph gusts 22 mph.
