About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Young Bike Riders learn the basics at Texas City event

By STUART VILLANUEVA | www.galvnews.com

Young bicyclists visiting Rainbow Park in Texas City were able to pick up a few pointers at the Texas City Family Bike Festival and Rodeo on Saturday.

The event, organized by Success on the Spectrum, an autism treatment franchise, featured bike safety lessons from Texas City Police Department officers, bike safety checks from local bike shop mechanics, music, vendors, bike giveaways and more.

The festival was held with the partnership of the Texas City Police Department and the Texas City-Police Academy Alumni Association. …

September Goal Secured, Highest Mileage Week Since May

Texbiker.net Posted on September 24, 2023 by Rick AnkrumSeptember 24, 2023

By the time I got home from church the temperature was 93 degrees but at least the humidity was “only” 55%. I got dressed and rolled my Lynskey Helix bike out to start the ride at 1:29 PM. I only needed 13 miles to reach my 720 mile goal for September so I decided to ride the Kingwood streets. Some streets repeat from previous rides and some don’t. I saw several what I call “casual” bikers during the ride. I finished at 3:07 PM biking 19.38 miles securing my September goal and increasing my week’s total to 253.12, the best week going back to at least July 3rd. This made up for last week not getting 200 miles. Weather: 93 degrees, 55% humidity, dew point 74.4, partly cloudy, wind W 7 mph; Finish 95 degrees, 52% humidity, dew point 74.2, partly cloudy, wind S 7 mph.

Earliest Start This Week. Back To A 200+ Mile Week, September’s Goal Within Reach

Texbiker.net Posted on September 23, 2023 by Rick AnkrumSeptember 23, 2023

Today’s bike ride began with the earliest start time this week, 8:05 AM. I tried to get going before 8 AM but maybe it was better to start after. Too early and I might miss other cyclists. Aboard my Canyon Endurace I set out on my Atascocita – Huffman – Walden route going south and east. Saturday bike rides are special because I usually see other cyclists and today was no exception. I met the first one on Atascocita Shores Drive as I headed to FM 1960. More cyclists rode west over Lake Houston as I went east. I thought maybe that would be all but on Old Atascocita Road several bunches passed. One cyclist yelled out “Texbiker” and later another called my name. That’s great. Turning around on Old Atascocita Road to head back to FM 2100 I didn’t think I would see more cyclist but at Atascocita Shores Drive and FM 1960 waiting to ride across FM 1960 another group rode up. That was the last ones I saw. I went through Walden and north through Atascocita Pines to Kingwood finishing the ride at 10:40 AM in time to watch the Oklahoma vs. Cincinnati football game. It was humid at the start but that went down by the time I finished. Weather: Start 75 degrees, 96% humidity, dew point 74.0, partly cloudy, wind calm; Finish 90 degrees, 66% humidity, dew point 76.7, a few clouds, wind S 6 mph.

As the ride began I need .05 miles to hit 200 for the week. It didn’t take long to take care of that and today’s 33.78 miles pushed the week to 233.73 miles, and September to 707.89, just 13 miles short of my 720 mile goal.
