About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Metro removing floating bus stops along Heights in favor of old design

Dug Begley | www.houstonchronicle.com

Along Heights Boulevard, it seems floating bus stops didn’t fly.

After installing two large concrete platforms as part of a divisive redesign of 11th Street, which acted as the bus stops while protecting the bike lanes along Heights, crews are now tearing them out and returning the street to its previous design.

The aim was to “improve traffic flow,” Metro spokeswoman Tracy Jackson said.

“Upon completion, Metro’s chief safety officer determined the design did not …

A Day Of Memories Biking North To Roman Forest Blvd.

Texbiker.net Posted on September 11, 2023 by Rick AnkrumSeptember 11, 2023

A day of memories of what happened 22 years ago in New York City and other places. I wore a jersey with stars and stripes. I thought back to what I was doing that morning.

Back on the bike today after not riding yesterday. I didn’t start today’s ride as early as my recent rides because a repair man was planning on coming this morning but that was changed to tomorrow. I got ready and headed out on my Lynskey Helix bike on a route I’ve only rode 4 previous times this year, New Caney – Roman Forest Blvd – Oakhurst. The roads are not that different from other routes just a different combination and turn around point. The Lynksey’s wheels went rolling at 9:39 AM. The weather changed over the weekend dropping 100+ degree days from the forecast. I was ready for a break like that. Today’s 33.7 miles was the average distance for the route in 2023 and moved my September total to 338.78 miles, 47% of the way to my 720 mile goal. I finished at 12:28 PM.

Weather: Start 80 degrees, 56 humidity, dew point 62.9, mostly cloudy, wind NE 4 mph; Finish 90 degrees, 43% humidity, dew point 64.7, mostly cloudy, wind N 4 mph.

The lower temperature, humidity, and dew point felt good as I rode. I only needed a water bottle leaving the CamelBak at home. The light wind allowed my legs to power through without much strain. Checking my AXS.SRAM.com ride report showed 1:36:56 using the 35×13 gears and 31:42 in the 35×15 gears. I made 33 rear derailleur shifts. The Velo saddle felt good throughout the ride. I reclaimed the Strava Local Legend on Trikelly on Adams St. with 13 rides in the last 90 days.

Keegan Swenson, Lauren Stephens capture elite titles during U.S Cycling Gravel races

Tim Johnson | starherald.com

GERING —They were dirt-covered, exhausted and wind chapped.

But Keegan Swenson and Lauren Stephens were also champions.

The two claimed the elite men’s and women’s titles, respectively, during the inaugural U.S. Cycling Gravel National Championships. The elite divisions headlined the event and had a $60,000 payout for the men’s and women’s 131-mile races.

Individuals also had the opportunity to compete in 24.8-, 52.6- and 88.8-mile courses, and the fields were broken down into divisions based on age and other categories. …

… Stephens, of Dallas, Texas, completed the 131-mile course in 6:45.33, nearly three minutes ahead of Alexis Skarda (6:48.15).

“I went in with the plan to attack with about 30 (kilometers) to go,” Stephens said. “There is a pretty steep climb out there and (the plan) worked.”

Stephens came into the weekend after winning the women’s race in the Garmin Gravel Worlds in Lincoln on Aug. 26, and the Dakota Five-0 in Spearfish, South Dakota, last weekend. The latter is a 50-mile mountain bike race but has roughly 6,500 feet of climbing. …

Author: Melia Masumoto | www.kvue.com

AUSTIN, Texas — Cyclists, walkers and runners raced around Downtown Austin on Sunday morning for the 27th annual Livestrong Challenge, which supports cancer survivors and their families.

Glitch Ride San Antonio, Texas

Mark Noblitt MTCCSA | strava.com

Today was a whole mess from start to finish! My Garmin 1040 glitched twice, and it wouldn’t resume the ride after restarts. Fortunately my watch recorded the whole ride, but the auto-pause is configured a bit differently. Almost all solo again today. I guess group rides just aren’t my thing anymore. There were once B groups who ride at my speed (typically 16-18 mph) in a paceline, but now most of the groups are considerably spicier than that. Lesson learned.

Getting prepped for my third annual Tour de Earnabike. Riding 5 centuries on consecutive days ending on 30 SEP at the EAB100. Would love to have your support for the mission of Earnabike if you’re willing!
