About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Rolled Route Options Around In My Head, Rode North To Caney Creek

Texbiker.net Posted on August 24, 2023 by Rick AnkrumAugust 24, 2023

I rolled several possible routes around in my head today before selecting the Kingwood – FM1485 – Kingwood one. I wanted to ride at least 31 miles but not too many more in preparation for the HH100 on Saturday. I thought today would be a relative easy ride and it was except for the heat by the time I finished at 11:47 AM. The high forecast was 107 and it was 99 when I finished. I thought finishing before noon the temperature wouldn’t be so close to the projected high. I rolled out at 8:54 AM on my Cervelo Caledonia headed to US59 and north. The wind was from the NW so I had some headwind getting to the turn around at Caney Creek. This meant there should’ve been a tailwind on the ride back south and part of the way I enjoyed a tailwind. I made a stop under TX 99 on Valley Ranch Parkway to eat a couple of oatmeal raisin cookies and drink some cold water from my CamelBak thinking the wind would be refreshing but the overpass blocked most of it. I had enough cold water left that I didn’t need to stop at the 7 Eleven for a refill. In fact when I got home the CamelBak still had ice when I emptied it. This was the 14th ride on this route this year. The last ride I tweaked the route some and rode 35.16 miles while the average is around 32 miles and I rode 32.43 miles today.

Weather: Start 86 degrees, 68% humidity, dew point 74.0, partly cloudy, wind NW 4 mph; Finish 99 degrees, 41% humidity, dew point 71.0, partly cloudy, wind N 7 mph.

Skipped Flat Tire Riding Canyon Endurace. No Canyon Flat Tire Complex?

Texbiker.net Posted on August 23, 2023 by Rick AnkrumAugust 23, 2023

I rode south and east on today’s bike ride aboard my Canyon Endurace bike. Top priority was no flat tires since the last two rides on the Canyon included flat tires. The route: Atascocita South – Walden – Huffman. I don’t ride this route very often, this was the fifth time this year and the last time was July 27th. The previous four rides averaged about 36.5 miles which I wanted to match today. I actually rode a little farther coming in at 37.23 miles. Rolling out at 8:55 AM was a little later than I wanted but not too late to finish before the temperature would cross over 100. I finished the ride at 12:07 PM. No flat tires, so priority accomplished. Maybe the Canyon will not develop a flat tire complex now. The week’s ride total 119.68 miles which is good because I won’t ride on Friday and getting to 200+ miles for the week will be close. I’m getting close to my 800 mile goal for August with 741 miles.

Weather: Start 84 degrees, 80% humidity, dew point 77.3, a few clouds, wind N 4 mph; Finish 95 degrees, 53% humidity, dew point 75.1, a few clouds, wind E 9 mph.

By Chantale Belefanti | www.newschannel6now.com
