About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Zwift Watopia Triple Flat Loops

Texbiker.net Posted on February 18, 2023 by Rick AnkrumFebruary 18, 2023

When I started today’s Zwift ride I didn’t expect to set a Zwift personal record for the route. I chose Watopia Triple Flat Loops because of the distance and 515 feet of climbing. For about half of the ride my route pace partner was close by but then the gap between started increasing and by the finish I was 2:05 ahead of the best time out of the 5 previous times, 1:08:41. Some of the other rides were slightly longer. Strava says it was the 2nd fastest while Zwift differed. I think Zwift only goes back 90 days.

Strava 2nd fastest time on Rebel Route: Triple Flat Loops (1:08:04).

I got caught up in several robo pacer rides and Coco groups as they raced by me.

I rode Zwift because it was in the low 50’s when I started at noon. Tomorrow warmer weather arrives. I rode in the rain in Watopia for part of the ride. Watopia weather: Rainy, Temperature 77, Humidity 89%, Feels like 78, Wind Speed 4.8 mi/h.

78 Degrees In Watopia As I Rode The Waistband

Texbiker.net Posted on February 17, 2023 by Rick AnkrumFebruary 17, 2023

No rebel route or changing turns from the route on today’s Zwift ride. I chose Watopia’s Waistband for the distance and moderate amount of climbing. The weather was in high 40’s with lots of sun when I started today at 1:26 PM. The late start was due to wrapping up the roof replacement on my house with the contractor.

My ride history on this route shows this was the 8th ride on this route. Probably the route I ride the most often in Zwift. I rode in under 1 hour for the 5th time.

I sometimes wish the weather conditions Strava show for the Zwift ride were real where I actually was turning the pedals on my smart trainer. It was rainy and 78 degrees in Watopia today but no rain in Zwift.

I didn’t know the Strava Watopia’s Waistband segment was 15.85 miles long. The route is mostly flat with the 335 feet of climbing spread over the route. I rode some of the same roads as yesterday’s rebel route.

MSU Texas Cycling director excited about team’s future

Andy Newberry | news.msutexas.edu

Cycling director Pablo Cruz Trochez found a home at Midwestern State University There was a time Pablo Cruz Trochez wouldn’t have envisioned life as a college student, so being the cycling coach at Midwestern State University definitely wasn’t on his radar.

He claims he wasn’t a good student in high school. But he was great on his bike. He was a professional cyclist for two years before he came to MSU Texas. The transition wasn’t easy. He was still learning and adapting to English.

But in retrospect his experiences gave him a good picture of what students and student-athletes need for success.
