About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

District bicycle plan pilot

www.txddot.gov

The State of Texas’ on-system transportation network – roads owned, operated, and managed by TxDOT – connects communities, regions, and destinations within and outside of Texas. While many bikeways are planned and funded at the local level, TxDOT works with local communities to develop bikeway networks integrated with the state system to improve safety, connectivity, and access within and between TxDOT districts.

TxDOT is working to develop regional plans to further provide safe, thoughtfully designed well-maintained facilities for bicyclists within each district and between districts, providing connectivity across the state. This is the next step for the state to plan more effectively for this mode of travel and develop an approach that can be applied across Texas.

Currently the focus is on Bryan, Pharr, Laredo, and San Antonio districts.

The plan analyzes the needs for bicycle infrastructure on the state highway system, prioritizes locations for bicycling improvements, and …

Austin lost a great human in the cycling community this past Friday (July 22, 2024).

By mtb_jeremy | austinmountainbiking.com

This was Gordon Yang. I am not sure if anyone on this forum knew him, but I would find it hard to believe there wasn’t at least one person that had at least crossed paths with him. I met him my freshman year at UT in 1996 through the cycling team. We both had Trek Y-bikes at the time, and had come from Houston. I was so lucky to have him as my room mate in the Jester dorm for sophomore and junior years. We had one of the few rooms with a private bathroom and managed to have 5 bikes stored in their at all times. So many great memories. During Summers home in Houston I introduced him to my riding group and we would do night rides into the late hours from Memorial Park to/around downtown. He competed in the Texas mountain bike series in 98 and won the state championship for sport class (B). We did lots of collegiate races together as well. I remember …

The San Juan Police Department created the bike patrol division in 2023. According to Sifuentes Jr., four officers were assigned to ride through neighborhoods, and build relationships with the community. …
