About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Texbiker news has been offline due to Hurricane Beryl. I’m back now.

2024 Tour de Boerne/Riding 62 miles on the back roads of the beautiful Texas Hill Country!

fitness and things | www.youtube.com

Well the 2024 Tour de Boerne was a success! Even though my training leading up to the ride wasn’t the best! It was a good ride, but it didn’t come without some suffering! That’s okay though. You learn more and grow from the things that are hard and challenge you physically and mentally than something that’s easy! We finished the ride, albeit slow, but a finish none the less. I can confidently say I have yet to see the inside of a sag wagon!!

Kiowski came up with this idea and went to put a bunch of plastic flamingos in people’s front yards. Whoever got their yard flocked, would pay for someone else’s lawn to get plastic flamingos all over it. …

Video: San Antonio nonprofit helps kids learn to ride bikes safely

Patty Santos | www.ksat.com

The big question: training wheels or no training wheels? SAN ANTONIO – Getting kids to play outside and learn to ride a bike can be a challenge, but once they do it, they will have fun.

Cristina Solorzano with Ghisallo Cycling San Antonio is trying to ensure kids are safe when riding their bikes.

Part of that is hosting classes, programs and trail rides with those who are part of a bike club.

“We teach kids a lot of cycling rules and cycling safety skills that will make them the leaders in their community,” Solorzano said. “They also try to teach kids that they can go anywhere on a bike and see different parts of their community. Trek Marlin 8 MTB In The Kingwood Rain

Texbiker.net Posted on July 7, 2024 by Rick AnkrumJuly 7, 2024

As the church worship service ended the rain began. As I moved through the rain to the Jeep to drive home I resigned myself to not biking today. When I got home I started watching stage 9 of the TdF and the rain stopped, the sun came out. By the time I finished watching the TdF the streets were dry. It was time to go for a bike ride. It was a late start at 3:56 PM. I decided to ride the Trek Marlin 8 MTB around Kingwood streets and trails. Riding south through Kingwood Greens I wanted to ride south over the river on W. Lake Houston Parkway but looking at the dark sky it didn’t look like a good idea. I turned north along W. Lake Houston Parkway. By the time I got to Kingwood Drive light rain started. I paused for a few seconds under the Memorial Herman ER portico and then rode on. As I neared the Kingwood Community Center on Rustic Woods the rain picked up. I rode quickly to the community center front door portico just before the rain came down and the wind picked up. After about 8 minutes the rain stopped and I headed off to finish the ride at 5;22 PM. The Trek Marlin 8 got its first ride in the rain.

Early Start, Fellow Cyclists, Tiny Dog Chase, Soaked Kit

Texbiker.net Posted on July 6, 2024 by Rick AnkrumJuly 6, 2024

An early start at 8:12 AM biking the Atascocita – Huffman – Atascocita Hike & Bike Trail route. I rode my Canyon Endurace CF 7 bike. This positioned me to see other cyclists along the route and I did. The humidity was high at 83%, the temperature was 83 too. The wind continued to be in the single digits today. I thought maybe I was too early to see other cyclists but once I was biking east over Lake Houston I saw the first cyclist and then more after that. As I waited for the traffic light to change at Atascocita Shores Drive and FM1960 on the way to Walden a flurry of cyclists passed on the shoulder to my right. The hike and bike trail portion was uneventful until I neared the Firesign Drive benches and a tiny dog not on a leash ran towards me yipping. I slowed quickly to not run over him as the owner yelled the dog’s name and clapped his hands to no avail to stop the dog. I pedaled away with the little dog chasing beside my right wheel for 20 to 30 feet when he stopped. I don’t think he could reach my shoe to bite me. I don’t know if I can call this a “dog sprint”. The rest of the ride went as planned finishing at 10:59 AM. My kit was soaked from sweat.
