About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

By Katie Frazier | kvia.com

EL PASO, Texas – Last Sundays Ride is a newly created non-profit organization that’s all about mountain biking and women empowerment. On the last Sunday of every month, women in the group go for a mountain bike ride on various trails across the region.

"It’s a no-drop group which means we wait for everyone. It’s a judgment-free zone," said Silvia Polanco, the Vice President of Las Sundays Ride. In addition, ladies will group up according to skill level- beginner, intermediate, and advanced, depending on how many women come out on the ride.

In October, their bike ride was a breast cancer fundraiser. Now, the organization is an …

Day 21: Merryville to Kountze, TX

Tuesday November 15, 2022, 67 miles (108 km) – Total so far: 1,075 miles (1,730 km) Last night before going to bed I decided to check the pressure in my tires – good thing because my rear tire was flat! This flat occurred on the same section between Oberlin and Merryville where I had 5 flats in April and eventually canceled my tour. There is so much debris and shredded tires on the roads in Louisiana it’s hard not to get a flat. If I was going to get a flat, this was a good time to find one. I repaired it inside my nice warm little cabin. Today I road to Kountze. Crossed the boarder into Texas 4 mi outside Merryville. Stopped at a great little cafe in Kirbyville for breakfast. I road faster than I needed, because …

Three of the jumps are now rideable, but not complete. Volunteer this Saturday to help finish building the jumps and fine-tune what gets built. We are able to source large rocks and dirt nearby, but we just need help moving it.https://t.co/5Fd3fccaP4

3 KOM’s Tour of Makuri Islands Stage 3, 1050 Feet of Climbing

Texbiker.net Posted on November 15, 2022 by Rick AnkrumNovember 15, 2022

The description said 3 KOM’s on stage 3 of the Tour of Makuri Islands. I chose the long stage, Temples and Towers, riding 20.54 miles and climbing 1,050 feet. The only other time I rode this route was December 11, 2021 and today I average 15.7 mph versus 14.5 mph. Another day that I was faster than previous rides. Some of the climbing hit 11% but only for a short distance settling back to single digits. On the KOMs I slowed to around 4 to 5 mph but sped up on the false flats. Some of the roads were in yesterday’s route.

Introduced in Zwift’s November 2021 update, Temples and Towers is the biggest Makuri Islands route, both in elevation and distance. It takes you up all three KOMs: Rooftop, Castle, and Temple. From ZwiftInsider.com. This is a lot of climbing for a flatlander like me.

Outside the weather was cloudy and 50 degrees with a 16 mph north wind and 22 mph gusts. That is why I rode indoors. Music while I rode: SiriusXM Seventies on 7.

Strava calculated 4 top results: PR on Temples and Towers (1:17:36), PR on Temple KOM from Fishing Village Side (14:14), 2nd fastest time on Castle KOM (7:58), 2nd fastest time on Rooftop Rendezvous (8:41).

Rock-N-Ride welcomes 200 cyclists to Cleveland

bluebonnetnews.com

The Greater Cleveland Chamber of Commerce hosted its Fifth Annual Rock-N-Ride cycling event on Saturday, Nov. 14, during a break in this weekend’s rains. Despite the chilly weather, close to 200 cyclists turned out this year, much to the relief of the organizers who have been planning for the event for months.

Of the 170 or so who signed up and paid their entry fees in advance, only around 30 were kept away by the weather, and even more riders signed up on the day of the event. At 7 a.m. sharp and …

Zwift Tour of Makuri Islands Stage 2 Suki’s Playground

Texbiker.net Posted on November 14, 2022 by Rick AnkrumNovember 14, 2022

Today’s Zwift ride was the Tour of Makuri Islands Stage 2 on Suki’s Playground. This was the 3rd ride on this route in 2022. The other 2 were in January. I started at 11:37 AM and rode 11.71 miles, a little longer than the official distance of 11.4 miles. Of the rides this year this one had the highest average speed of 17.9 mph. I climbed 489 feet over the 11.4 miles. There was climb that briefly hit 10% but the other climbs maxed out at 7%. The Wahoo Kickr Core trainer let me know when I was riding up hill increasing the resistance to match. This is the first ride in awhile where my average speed was higher than previous rides on the same route. I was going to do a spin down calibration in Zwift but I couldn’t find it and once I signed into the ride any pedaling started the stage.

There were two route choices for stage 2 and I chose the longer one. ZwiftInsider.com describes the route: “This route begins at the main lap banner, traveling downhill. You’ll ride through the flat farmlands, then cut across to the Castle Area, where a bit of climbing takes you up to the marketplace before you head to the Fishing Village. Then it’s an easy descent down to Village Onsen and the Country Sprint before cutting across once more to the Castle Area, where you’ll keep going straight to ride through the lap banner once more.” Route basics: Length: 18.5 km (11.5 miles), Elevation: 150 m (492‘), Lead-In: 0 km ( miles).

Strava recognized my speed and awarded me the PR on Suki’s Playground (38:08).
