About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Exclusive: New 17-acre East End project aims to make cars obsolete with walkable, ‘micro’ living

Marissa Luck | www.houstonchronicle.com

Plans to turn a swath of the East End into a walkable district are getting larger and more ambitious — setting the groundwork for what could become Houston’s next 15-minute neighborhood — where everything a resident needs is within 15 minutes of walking distance.

Houston real estate firm Concept Neighborhood — a group of entrepreneurs that include some of founders of the Axelrad beer garden — previously unveiled plans to convert the former W-K-M warehouse complex in the East End into a mixed-use destination with hyperlocal businesses and walkable streets.

Now, the scale of the project — estimated at $350 million — has grown to 17 acres, and developers plan to incorporate up to 1,000 mixed-income …

Bre’Ana Powell died after the Oct. 8, 2022, incident at Broadway and Morley

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — The family of a woman hit and killed by a trash truck while riding her bicycle has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Republic Waste Services of Texas and the driver.

On Oct. 8, Bre’Ana Powell was crossing Broadway Street in southeast Houston on her bicycle when Houston police say the driver of the 50,000-pound truck made a right turn on to Morley. The 27-year-old was struck and taken to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

No Escaping The 10% Climbs, Stage 6 Tour of Makuri Islands

Texbiker.net Posted on November 18, 2022 by Rick AnkrumNovember 18, 2022

I hoped today I could avoid the 10% climb at the start of the ride but it was there waiting on me and again at the finish. This was a new route for me but it covered some of the same roads as the Makuri 40 route I rode yesterday. Stage 6 of the Tour of Makuri Islands had two routes and I chose the longer Country to Coastal at 20.8 miles with 899 feet of climbing. Actually I rode 20.89 miles and climbed 928 feet. During the ride I watched the feet climbed almost as much as the distance. With less than 2 miles to go there was around 200 feet of climbing left and I was hoping it would spread out over those miles but it came in lumps. 4 sprints today versus 5 yesterday. No Strava top results since this was the first time on the route and there were only 3 segments.

According to ZwiftInsider.com, “One of Makuri Islands’ longest routes, Country to Coast takes you on a tour of Yumezi’s castle area and farmlands as well as Urukazi’s wild coastline.” Route basics: Length: 33.4 km (20.8 miles), Elevation: 274 m (899‘), Lead-In: 0.13 km (0.1 miles).

Some sand and gravel on the route near the water it was sand and in the forest it was gravel. I stuck with my road bike because I didn’t know how many miles it would be and I didn’t want to stop and change.

While I rode the 20.89 miles I listened to Pandora’s Contemporary Christian Radio station.
