The city of Dallas is asking for public input on its Dallas Bike Plan update and ForwardDallas Comprehensive Land Use Plan through community workshops starting on Wednesday until Nov. 5.
ForwardDallas is a comprehensive master plan designed by the city to be a guide on how land citywide should be used. This will affect urban design, transportation and housing.
The updated bike plan will modernize the 2011 version. The Department of Transportation began the development early this year and is set to have a plan by late spring next year.
Kathryn Rush, chief planner with the city’s transportation department, said that right now Dallas has a …

Day 24 Sanderson: Lucky town, here’s hoping
Monday October 17, 2022, 56 miles (90 km) – Total so far: 1,338 miles (2,153 km)
I had a good night’s sleep thanks to some wax earplugs, the railway track runs not far from the campsite and the trains run through the night blowing their horns.
As I got out of my tent I could see mountains to the north which were not visible yesterday when everything was covered in mist and low cloud.
As I was leaving the campsite and before I got on my bike, I checked the tires to make sure there were no goats head thorns in them. Sure enough there was one sticking in my front tire. I decided to pull it out, which resulted white sealant appearing where the thorn had previously sat. I needn’t have worried because within a couple of seconds the sealant did its job and the tire was okay with minimal pressure loss. Although I would have rather done without this, it did reassure me that my tire set up was good.
I passed through the old town of Marathon which seemed to be …

A driver that struck and killed a boy last month in Kingwood was "messing with her sandwich," according to police, as she turned left and he rode his bike through the residential intersection.
No charges have been filed in Montgomery County related to the Sept. 26 crash, despite officials listing distraction as one possible cause for the crash. The case remains under investigation.
The woman, who lived in the neighborhood around Wagner Pond just on the Montgomery County line side of Kingwood south of Northpark Drive, told investigators she was driving along Kings Mill Lane, about to turn left onto Gallant Knight behind another vehicle. Once that first vehicle took the left, …

MARFA — All manner of cyclists rode into town last weekend to participate in the Marfa100 bike race, a 60-plus-mile trek on scenic FM 2810. The event, founded circa 2010, has experienced steady growth in participation over the years, setting yet another record this year with around 330 riders, up from 250 in 2021.
Some participants opted for a more mild 30-mile route, and not all rode traditional bicycles — two rollerbladers, a recumbent bike and elliptical bike joined the Peloton at the starting point this year. Volunteers manned aid stations at various mile markers, race support assisted stranded riders with flats, and friends and family gathered to cheer on the weary cyclists. Many lingered for an impromptu hang at the finish line. One rider pulled goat heads out of their tires, others …
