About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Pollard, who represents District J on Houston’s southwest side, made the comments during the council’s public comment session Dec. 7. He said he believed city engineers are putting too much focus on protecting bicyclists "to the detriment of those riding in vehicles" after a pair of …

Man charged after deadly crash that killed cyclist in Liberty County

abc13.com

LIBERTY COUNTY, Texas (KTRK) — A Liberty County man has been charged with the death of a cyclist after crashing into a group of them in Rye, Texas back in October.

Michael Weaver allegedly hit the group with his Ford Escape along FM 787 on Oct. 30

Weaver told investigators in the crash report that he is visually impaired in one eye and blind in the other. Troopers claim his failure to control his speed lead him to hit the six cyclists.

The 66-year old man is accused of killing 51-year-old Kent Wosepka, a cycling enthusiast from Massachusetts, who was taken to a Beaumont hospital and died the next day. Two others were also hospitalized in serious conditions including Wosepka’s fiancée, Betsy O’Brien.

If convicted, Weaver could face up to two years in jail. It is unknown if he was arrested.

A Chat with Sophie the Fairdale at 20,000 Miles + 800 Consecutive Days of Bicycling

A Dude Abikes | adudeabikes.com

It’s a pair of milestones this time for A Dude Abikes and his trusty steed, Sophie, the Fairdale Weekender Archer. I won her in a raffle from Bike Austin back in 2017, though I didn’t start riding her exclusively until January of 2018. On Sunday, we passed 20,000 miles, according to the Gear setting on Strava, the fitness app (which means “to strive” in Swedish.) As it turned out, it happened the day after 800 days I bicycled in a row. Two years, two months and 10 days if you’re wondering.

There was some major effort involved, and with that some pain and suffering, that’s for sure. They’re all part of attaining these big numbers and worth commemorating. I’m not really …
