About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Video: College Station’s comprehensive plan update goes in front of three recommending bodies this week

By Andy Krauss | www.kbtx.com

COLLEGE STATION, Texas (KBTX) – After completing a 5-week public engagement period at the beginning of the month, the City of College Station’s 10-year comprehensive plan update, known as The Next 10, goes before three recommending bodies this week.

The Bicycle, Pedestrian and Greenways Board and the Parks and Recreation Board will review specific chapters of the plan, while the Planning and Zoning Commission will review the update in its entirety before it’s set to go in front of city council for potential adoption on October 14.

“Each one of these boards could recommend changes to either their specific section or the comprehensive plan in its entirety,” Long Range Planning Administrator Alyssa Halle-Schramm said. “Ultimately, it would be whether or not city council wants to accept those …

hillsbororeporter.com

To pay tribute to the 29 firefighters and 82 law enforcement members who lost their lives in Texas in the line of duty in 2020, first responders from Texas and other states joined together for a 14-day, 1,000-mile bicycle ride from Houston to the Fallen Firefighter Memorial in Colorado Springs, Colorado. The Texas Brotherhood Riders left from Waco at 7 a.m. Tuesday, September 7 to begin their third day of riding. Escorted by the Hillsboro Police Department, the riders pedaled through Hillsboro at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday.

The Texas Brotherhood Ride began in 2014, when the riders passed through West to honor the lives lost during the explosion at the West Fertilizer Company in 2013. Since then, first responders have made bike rides in multiple areas of Texas, and they choose the route each …

All the Road’s A-Rage, and We Are Merely Cyclists

A Dude Abikes | adudeabikes.com

I’m going to go out on a limb here and say that riding a bicycle on urban streets is a risky proposition in most cities in America. In my city, Austin, Texas, we have a decent amount of bicycle infrastructure. Better than some, worse than others. Amsterdam it’s not, and we still have to contend with all manner of things that could drive one to drink. Number one is drunk or otherwise distracted drivers. And a lot of those people aren’t swigging booze, they’re guzzling down the rage-ahol. And sometimes when things go badly, we cyclists get plenty angry, too. To quote the original Dr. Bruce Banner to the reporter Jack: “Mr. McGee, don’t make me angry. You wouldn’t like me when I’m angry.”

The first incident that got me thinking about this was a …

Tina Pic, Danny Estevez win USA CRITS ninth stop in El Paso

Rebecca Reza | www.velonews.com

Rachel Langdon, Thomas Gibbons retain series leads heading into the final, tenth race.

U.S. criterium champion Danny Estevez sprinted to his second consecutive USA CRITS win in El Paso, Texas on Saturday night. Posting up in the stars-and-stripes at speed in the darkness, it was a repeat of his Athens Twilight Criterium win, only this time he had his Best Buddies teammate Michael Hernandez right behind him for second and Sam Rosenholtz (ButcherBox) in third.

In the women’s race, Tina Pic (Colavita-Hello Fresh) won from a four-rider breakaway that escaped with 10 laps to go. Kaitlyn Agnew (ATX Wolfpack-Jakroo) attacked on …

Funds earmarked for hike-and-bike trail near Lookout Road

The Alamo Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) completed its recent round of transportation funding. Selma City Administrator Johnny Casias said the city received approval of its lone request for the 2023-2026 funding cycle — the $2,934,800 Lookout Road bike and sidewalk lane.

Driving To Lucy Park Without Elsie Hotpepper To Bike To Wichita Falls

Durango Texas | durangotexas.blogspot.com

Elsie Hotpepper called last night when I was not available to talk to. So, this morning I called the Hotpepper back to ask if she wanted to ride to Lucy Park with me. But, Elsie was not available, so I drove alone to Lucy Park to take my backup bike on a ride.

Above you can see the bike has arrived at Wichita Falls.

Wichita Falls, the waterfall, is not in Lucy Park. One rides the Circle Trail out of Lucy Park and in about a half a mile one comes to Wichita Falls, the waterfall, not the town. Both Lucy Park and Wichita Falls, the waterfall, are in Wichita Falls, the town. So is the Circle Trail.

I rolled my wheels all the way to O’Reilly Park, which is a short distance from the …

M-K-T Bridge reopening now uncertain as repairs revealed more damage

Dug Begley | www.houstonchronicle.com

Months after a fire closed a key Houston trail link, opening day for the M-K-T Bridge remains up in the air, after workers discovered more repairs are needed to the old railroad crossing.

“They found additional damage caused by the fire that was not visible during the initial assessment,” the Houston Parks Board said in a statement. “Further repairs are needed before the bridge can safely reopen. In addition, there is also damage to the bridge caused by wear and tear that we would like to address while it is closed.”

That leaves the link along the Heights Hike and Bike Trail near Interstate 10 …
