The final biking day of the week and I needed 21 miles to get a 200 mile week. After church I set out at 12:20 PM biking “Kingwood Streets” on my Canyon Endurace bike. A weather forecast of rain proved to be a dud and I rode 26.19 miles pushing the week’s total to 205.68 miles. With 6 riding days I had to hustle for those last miles. I averaged 34.2 miles per ride. July miles improved to 138.04, 17% of the way to my 800 mile goal. A summary of the week’s bike rides.
7-4-2021 Week Bike Rides Summary
That makes 6 weeks in a row of 200 miles. Out of the last 11 weeks, 10 have been 200 miles.
I hoped to see plenty of July 4th decorations but not many out. I recorded some on the video. I did see 3 other bikers.
I did get to wear a new pair of Primal Prisma shorts as you can see in the video.
Bicycling enthusiasts were lined up long before their 8 a.m. start time Saturday, June 26, at Railport Brewing Company in downtown Waxahachie to participate in the inaugural Wheels of Fire bike ride. Participants came from the surrounding area and as far away as Oklahoma and Kansas.
The event, which was organized by Kevin and Michelle Cozine, served as a fundraiser for two local nonprofits: the Jon Wilson Foundation, which supports firefighters and their families, and Campfire Creek Therapeutic Riding Center, which provides horse therapy services for those with special needs. Each entity received $6,000, with the monies raised through rider registration fees. …
News flash: I rode my bicycle in June. Here’s some numbers and words about them. Also I hope you like orange, black and white, because those are Strava’s colors. It’s like Halloween without the candy. Actually, it’s like working off the candy. Great, now I want candy. I’m hungry because I rode my bicycle in June. But you already read that, because I already wrote that. Feel free to report me to the Department of Redundancy Department (thank you, Monty Python for that brilliant idea). I actually once put those magic words on the door of my office (yes, I know they are fighting words in a government bureaucracy). I was not kept around after the six month probation was ended. Just like June 2021 did. It’s over, done with, gone. You’ve heard of circular logic, like beans …
A Jefferson County grand jury indicted a local man for allegedly punching and kicking a developmentally challenged man and stealing his electric bicycle.
The victim, authorities said, was a 32-year-old man with the mental capacity of a child between 11 and 16 years of age. Police said the victim had blood on his face near his cheek and lip when officers met with him in the 700 block of Magnolia Avenue in Port Neches on April 28.
Due to the man’s developmental delay, police believe he is incapable of defending himself.

Rode 45 miles through the rural countryside around Smithville, TX. Saw 6 deer, 2 wild turkeys, countless squirrels, and of course lots of beef and dairy cows. Also saw lots of walking stick insects crossing the road, which is a first.

I paused stage 7 of the Tour de France to get ready to start today’s bike ride. Wheels rolled on my Canyon Endurace CF SLX bike at 8:22 AM to begin the bike ride. I was a little leery remembering the weather forecast called for rain but the streets were dry and the radar showed no rain nearby. I decided to ride my usual Saturday route, “Atascocita – FM 2100 – Walden”, to see other bikers.
Not too far into the ride I stopped to take this photo of me. The colors were fitting since it is the 4th of July weekend.
7-3-2021 Bike Ride with Me
No bikers crossed my route as I approached FM 1960 on Atascocita Shores Drive. Usually I see a few before then. Once I started east across Lake Houston they began to arrive. (you can see them in the video)
The weather continued dry but the cloudy sky but when I reached FM 2100 I changed my route due to the dark and threatening sky to the north. Instead of riding on north on FM 2100 as I planned I made a u-turn and retraced my ride back to FM 1960. On Fairlake Lane I felt a few sprinkles. I couldn’t see the sky to the north because of the trees. Getting close to FM 1960 more sprinkles hit me. I hoped the rain wouldn’t catch over Lake Houston. With a nice tailwind I rode quickly over Lake Houston to the west. The rain held off except for more sprinkles.
While I rode west on Old Atascocita Road trying to avoid the rain two bikers passed me headed east. I hope they stayed dry. I think they started at the church on Fairlake Lane.
Back at Atascocita Shores Drive the light changed quickly and i turned left heading to Walden but making my way through the side streets I looked at the dark clouds over Walden and decided to not bike there as more sprinkles fell. Pinehurst Trail Drive took me north with some light rain. But it went away and I thought the bike ride would be dry from there. Surprise! It wasn’t, watch the video to see what happened. Dry streets reappeared as I neared the end of the ride as I finished at 10:39 AM.
Weather conditions at the start and finish: start 78 n(90% humidity, 75.2 dew point), mostly cloudy, wind calm; finish 78 (93% humidity, 75.8 dew point), light rain, wind NE 10 mph. I got wet but no lightning so I kept pedaling. No worse than from sweating. I hosed off the Canyon bike at home.
Technically the route wasn’t what I said but I kept the label. I biked this route 12 times in 2021 so far. The 1st and last time are the same distance, very unusual. My week totals 179.49 miles. July is up to 111.85 miles, 14% of my 800 mile goal. 2021 YTD miles (4872) trails 2020 by 117. I can’t seem to close the difference much. I still have a day left to make it a 200 mile week. I’ll see how the weather works with that thought.

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — The worst accidents can happen when we’re doing something we do every day, in familiar surroundings. In fact, transportation experts say more than half of serious car accidents happen within five miles of the home, and nearly 70% happen within 10 miles of home.
But, it’s not just car crashes. An avid cyclist named Larry Sears says a freak accident nearly cost him his life, but then a doctor he’d never met took a chance on him. Dr. George Al Shamy describes it as "a pretty devastating brain injury."
LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – Dunbar lake mountain biking trails will soon be upgraded thanks to a total $96,200 dollar grant from Texas Parks and Wildlife, and support from the city.
There are no other trails like this unless you travel as far as Palo Duro, but cyclists claim these trails are not bike or pedestrian friendly.
“It’s easy to catch a flat out here, it’s easy to break your tire. So there’s just a lot of there’s a lot of improvement that can be done on these trails,†one cyclist said.
The trails were created by volunteers and over the years, maintained by volunteers using their own money.
No fancy segments or production this month; it’s just Brent looking like a homeless person and letting you know details of the club’s return to group riding.
We just missed a big rainstorm at the end. Otherwise a pretty standard Pop ride. I put in one interval on Renner before Whole Foods, but otherwise just surfing wheels and keeping the rubber down.
LANSING, Mich. (WLNS)– If you haven’t worked out recently… be prepared to feel like a slacker. 19 students and recent graduates from the University of Texas are biking 4,000 miles across the country, and Thursday they stopped in Lansing.
The group started their trip June 4th and are on day 27 of 70. The group is apart of the non-profit “Texas 4,000 for cancer.â€
Usually the group will ride from Austin, Texas to Anchorage, Alaska. Due to the Canadian border being closed to the U.S. they had to take a detour.
Between March 2020 and March 2021, use of the City of Irving’s Campion Trail system increased by more than 300%.
In 2019, the City of Irving began placing counters throughout the Campion Trail system. The counters help monitor usage along the trail system. Resident and visitor use of the outdoor trails surged as many indoor gyms and recreational facilities were closed during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020.
While trail use is subject to weather conditions, much of Campion is available for recreational use. From cycling to running to roller skating …
