About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

MS 150 canceled due to weather, organizers announce

Daniela Sternitzky-Di Napoli | www.click2houston.com

HOUSTON – Organizers have announced that the Texas MS 150 event has been canceled for Saturday due to the inclement weather.

According to the announcement, the decision was difficult but in the best interest of safety for the riders.

Multiple Sclerosis Society makes food donation to Twin City Mission

By Donnie Tuggle | wwwkbtx.com

“They immediately asked us to find a good organization to be able to deliver that food on their behalf, and we were happy to do it.”

BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) – Saturday’s unfortunate cancellation of the MS-150 bike ride to Kyle Field left event organizers with over 2,000 portions of food and no one to eat it. That’s when they decided to repackage the food and donate it to Twin City Mission.

The food was prepared and delivered by Levy Restaurants at Olsen Field on behalf of the Multiple Sclerosis Society. They were tasked with making sure the food didn’t go to waste and decided that Twin City Mission was a great option.

“Unfortunately, with the cancellation of that (MS-150), one of their first priorities is making sure that the food didn’t …

Rare air: BMX event brings legends of sport to Longview skatepark

By Michael Cavazos | www.news-journal.com

Justin Erickson never believed he’d meet his idol — BMX legend Mat Hoffman. But on Saturday, his dream became a reality when more than 300 BMX riders, including Hoffman, attended a first-of-its-kind event at Longview’s skatepark.

“They say you should never meet your heroes, but … that’s actually probably not true because he’s a pretty cool dude,” Erickson said after visiting with Hoffman and getting his autograph. “I have been riding BMX for almost 30 years, and I never imagined that I would meet Mat Hoffman right here in …

Rain Stopped, Bike Ride Began For May

Texbiker.net Posted on May 1, 2021 by Rick AnkrumMay 1, 2021
5-1-2021 Strava Bike Ride Summary

Earlier today I didn’t think the rain would stop and the streets drive off for a bike ride. But the rain stopped around 10 AM and by 1 PM I rolled away on the Lynskey R300 bike. I chose the “Atascocita – Walden – E. Lake Houston Parkway” route because of the later start and the threat of rain to the southwest of Houston. I finished the bike ride at 3:23 PM without getting caught in any rain. The MS150 was canceled due to the rain along the route northwest of Houston. I saw Tour de Rouge route signs in Atascocita and FM 1960. I thought the ride started today but starts Sunday, May 2nd. They should avoid the rain.

  • 5-1-2021 Bike Ride Atascocita Shores Dr-2
  • 5-1-2021 Bike Ride Atascocita Shores Dr-1

Modifying the route to add a couple of miles I rode through North and South Woodland Hills Villages in Kingwood. When it rained most of Friday I thought reaching a 200+ mile week might be out of reach but today’s 30.6 miles moved the week’s total to 187.94 miles presenting the opportunity of riding 200+ miles if the weather tomorrow (Sunday) cooperates. The forecast says the rain should be finished by sunrise. By the time I get home from church any wet streets should be dry. 2021 now trails 2020 YTD miles by 76 after not biking yesterday. My goal for May is 660 miles, or 21.3 miles per day.

Wind roared along the route: start 72 (94% humidity, 70.7 dew point), overcast, wind E 18 mph; finish 76 (85% humidity, 70.9 dew point), mostly cloudy and breezy, wind SE 21 mph gusts 28 mph. I didn’t notice the big increase in the wind because it was already strong. With the cloud cover and strong wind I opted to wear shorts, a long sleeve jersey, and a short sleeve jersey on top.

The Exit Interview: A Conversation With Outgoing Mayor Betsy Price

by Brian Kendall | fwtx.com

After serving 10 years — the longest of any mayor in Fort Worth’s history — Betsy Price is leaving office. Whether you’ve voted for her or not, no one can deny the impact the outgoing mayor has had on the city. So, what did she learn? And where do we go from here?

Betsy Price — at press time still the mayor of Fort Worth — leads a pack of cyclists on a chillier-than-expected April afternoon. Though Price is clad in a professional cycling kit and helmet, leaving one to think she could break into a sprint at any moment, the ride’s pace never goes beyond that of a jaunty cruise. Because Price is chatting with fellow cyclists through the majority of the 7-mile journey, a ride that requires little exertion makes sense.

The mayor begins the ride out front and, ever so slowly, meanders her way to the back of the peloton, making sure to speak to nearly every person who joined her for the short trek. Her fellow riders come …

Township explores bike-walking path connection to Harper’s Landing

Jeff Forward | www.houstonchronicle.com

Plans for a connector pathway for pedestrians and bicycles linking Harper’s Landing on the east side of Interstate-45 to the main areas of The Woodlands on the west side of the freeway will move forward despite uncertainties over the project.

The Woodlands Township Board of Directors discussed the issue for almost an hour on April 28, hoping to revive the plan that has been on the minds of local leaders and residents since 2016. No action was taken aside from instructing staff to continue to pursue options on the issue.

Harper’s Landing is the lone neighborhood in The Woodlands east of I-45 and frontage roads and the community does not have a walkway connection under the freeway to access the 200 miles of trails in the township. The pathways …

Stymied By Much Needed Rain, April Bike Rides Review

Texbiker.net Posted on April 30, 2021 by Rick AnkrumApril 30, 2021

My chance to add more miles to April fell victim rain. Starting early this morning my home weather station recorded 3.48″ of rain as of this post. I needed 8 more miles for April to exceed July 2020’s 922 miles. But that won’t happen.

April was all road biking with Zwift not in the picture. I biked two organized rides: the Baytown YMCA Gator Ride and the Tour de RACHA. Those were the first organized rides since March 2020.

I did not ride 4 days which could’ve increased the miles now that I look back. One of those days I recovered from my second dose of COVID-19 vaccine, 2 were rest days, and today was rain.

There were 3 weeks of 200+ miles which helped keep me close to April 2020 miles.

4-30-2021 SportTracks April Bike Rides Summary

Two maintenance actions, 1 on my Canyon Endurace and 1 on my Lynskey R300 bikes. Both bike chains waxed. One flat tire 4/19/2021 on the Lynskey R300. I returned home to fix the flat since the ride just started.

The Canyon Endurace now has 21,687 miles and the Lynskey R300 has 3,887 miles.
