The City of Waco Parks and Recreation Department will host a ribbon cutting ceremony at 11 a.m. Thursday to celebrate the reopening of Trail Blazer Park, following a $640,000 improvement project at the site.
The 11-acre neighborhood park, located at 1101 Harris Creek Road, opened in 2013 as the primary trailhead for the Cotton Belt Trail. Neighborhood growth surrounding the park has since expanded, demonstrating the increased need for neighborhood park amenities to serve a wider range of families and uses.
New park amenities include a pavilion, water fountain, trail lighting, seating, soccer goals, a nine-hole family disc golf course, a shaded playground with enhanced accessibility and access improvements with connectivity to Stageline Drive. Additionally, a bicycle repair station was donated earlier this year by Bicycle World.

The proposal to expand and transform I-35 through downtown Austin has raised some questions. City leaders said it doesn’t do enough for walking, biking and transit.

Scenic Texas has announced its first-ever “Ride for Scenic Texas,†a 21-mile loop bike ride and fundraiser to build awareness about the nonprofit’s work to designate Texas roads as official state scenic byways and to protect the Lone Star State’s visual environment.
This is an open ride format on Saturday, April 10, from 8 a.m. to noon in Driftwood, where riders can take to the course freely to enjoy the scenic ride that begins and ends at Vista Brewing. After their ride, cyclists can enjoy a socially distanced brew outside in the Vista Brewing beer garden.

The ride today was not overly eventful today, but the day did end with a very pleasant surprise when I was invited for dinner. Since changing time zones, the sun is now coming up after 7 am so that limits my early morning miles before the winds pick up. For today’s ride, the winds started nice but turned on me twice: once after Alpine and then again about 20 miles before Sanderson. Those periods can best be described as unrelenting and humorless.
