About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Man Bikes 220 Miles from Austin to Dallas

BY SPECTRUM NEWS STAFF AUSTIN | spectrumlocalnews.com

AUSTIN, Texas —It’s that time of year right before school starts up again, when many families go on vacation, and this summer is shaping up to be the year of the road trip. The Leon family’s car is packed up and ready to go, filled with all the road trip essentials, but this family road trip isn’t your typical road trip.

Chris Leon set off on a bike ride from Austin, 220 miles north to Dallas. His wife, Tracy Leon, called him crazy.

"He just kind of sprung it on me, and …

Patched, Post Rainfall, Construction Zones, Most Frequent Route

Texbiker.net Posted on July 22, 2020 by Rick AnkrumJuly 22, 2020

Tuesday biking fell victim to rain and I stayed home. After doing some house chores I walked by the Canyon Endurace and out of habit squeezed the rear tire and it felt soft. A flat tire is not good but at least I found it at home. Pulling the tube out of the tire and pumping it up I found a tiny leak. Looking at the outside of the tire I found nothing to cause the leak but running my finger around the inside a piece of thin wire struck my finger. I needed a pair of pliers to pull it out because it was too short to grip with my fingers. The problem solved and patch applied the Canyon Endurace was ready for Wednesday’s bike ride.

Around 7 AM a light rain started but it didn’t last long and my hope for riding looked better with enough time for the streets to dry off. I felt comfortable with the streets being dry and started the bike ride at 9:56 AM. At first I thought about riding north but changed my mind and rode to the south and east on the “Atascocita – Walden – Huffman” route. I will ride north tomorrow. Today’s ride covered 32.3 miles increasing the week’ total to 75.91 miles and July to 671.56 miles. I lack 129 miles to reach my goal for the month. The weekend weather forecast looks wet according to the forecast making 200 miles this week iffy. This route is one I ride frequently with this being the 23rd time this year, 15 times on my Canyon Endurace and 8 times on my Lynskey R300.

  • 7-22-2020 Golden Cheetah YTD Ride Summary Today's Route Canyon Endurace
  • 7-22-2020 Golden Cheetah YTD Ride Summary Today's Route Lynskey R300

After the early morning rain and the forecast warning of scattered showers in the area I kept a wary eye on the clouds during the bike ride. No rain came but after I finished the ride at 12:27 PM I heard thunder from the south several times. Weather conditions: start 77 (99% Humidity, 76.9 dew point), mostly cloudy, wind NE 6 mph. Finish 91 (68% humidity, 78.8 dew point), mostly cloudy, wind SE 9 mph. With the cooler temperature I left my CamelBak at home and took a water bottle, As it heated up I missed the cold water from the CamelBak but made it home with some water left. Rain chance decreases tomorrow.

Construction along the route threatens my ability to use it in the future. Along FM 2100 crews installed barriers on the northbound shoulder between Old Atascocita Road and FM 1960. there is room between the barrier and the main lane but not as much as before. At Atascocita Shores Drive and FM 1960 another company worked on traffic signals in preparation for widening FM 1960. I think I can avoid this area but congestion may make it slower getting through to ride east and west.

bike fit calculator needs subjects

By mack_turtle | austinmountainbiking.com

Peter Verdone gets it. He developed a way to measure and calculate your functional range of motion to figure out approximately how your bike should fit. this is about orienting your feet and your handlebars and has nothing to say about saddle position. this is about how your bike handles under you when your butt is not on the saddle, which is when it really counts (or should) on technical terrain. even if you don’t have a dropper post, the saddle position is …

July 2020 Executive Director’s Report

By Doogie Roux | bikehouston.org

Hello Fellow Houston Cyclists,

My name is Doogie Roux, and I’m on the Board of Directors for BikeHouston. I’m originally from Cheneyville, Louisiana. I grew up spending time with family in Houston often during the summer and for various holidays. After college, extensive travel, and work abroad, Houston became my home. This city is amazing. It’s eclectic, unique, and diverse. What I love most about Houston is how it all comes together to create an amazing culture of love and acceptance in the city.

During these unprecedented times, we’ve all had to adjust in so many ways. From how we work, to how we socialize, and how we celebrate holidays. More recently, we celebrated Juneteenth. While social distancing on a holiday like this can be tough, we managed to celebrate and engage safely thanks to Commissioner Rodney Ellis and Bike Texas. We did so by exploring the historic Emancipation Trail,a roughly 60 mile path from Galveston to Houston undertaken by black families to …

Video: Bicycle shops see increase in thefts, burglaries — some losing up to 50K worth in bikes

Taisha Walker | www.click2houston.com

HOUSTON – Bicycles have been in high demand since the start of the pandemic, even thieves are desperate to get their hands on them.

Surveillance cameras at Pearland Bicycles showed three crooks break into the shop at 1:30 a.m. on Tuesday. Video shows the men pulling up to the business in a white truck. Video shows one the thieves getting out with a crowbar to pry open the glass door, causing it to shatter.

“They spend about a minute working on the door with the crowbar to get it open and once …
