About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Blue Sky Arrives, Light Wind Prevails, Smooth Bike Ride

Texbiker.net Posted on June 2, 2020 by Rick AnkrumJune 2, 2020

I managed to start the bike ride at 10:41 AM which was important since I have a mid-afternoon appointment. To go along with that I chose the “Atascocita – Walden – Huffman” route biking 32.12 miles. I rode the Canyon Endurace CF SLX bike 16,952 miles since I started riding it in February of 2018.

Today’s weather was a big improvement from yesterday. The overcast sky gave way to partly cloudy with nice patches of blue and a light NE wind. I wore shorts and my GCN short sleeve jersey. Weather while I biked: start 85 (75% humidity, 75.9 dew point), mostly cloudy, wind NE 6 mph. Finish 89 (62% humidity, 74.2 dew point), partly cloudy, wind NE 6 mph. The wind held steady all the way to my 1:03 PM finish.

Lately the GoPro Hero 7 Black video required extra work because some of the clips recorded upside down. I searched online and found a potential solution by locking the screen in the “down” direction. Today’s video recorded all of the clips in the correct orientation eliminating the extra work. I ordered a frame for the GoPro from Amazon that includes a holder for the mic adapter after my ugly solutions failed.

Below is a summary of the 19 rides year to date for today’s route broken down by the bike. Nifty chart from the Golden Cheetah program..

RIP Bandera Bike Park

by Barry | austinmountainbiking.com

I am glad to have been once. Good stuff. But this has to be devastating for those who put countless hours into the trails, and for the locals who regularly enjoyed the park. And the upcoming race series, which I have to assume is canceled–or will have to be relocated.

Covid casualty? Something else?? Their FB posts went from curious to ominous to bad over about a month. …

Cool, Sticky, Overcast Sky, and a Dose of Tailwind

Texbiker.net Posted on June 1, 2020 by Rick AnkrumJune 1, 2020

Starting a new month of biking with a 36.17 mile ride on the “New Caney – Tavola – Valley Ranch” route. I start ed the ride at 11:36 AM and finished at 2:25 PM. My goal for June is 800 miles which means I will be busy and off days will be rare unless the weather forces me. Today was the 11th ride on this route in 2020. The bike for today’s ride was my Canyon Endurace CF SLX.

6-1-2020 YTD Bike Rides Summary for today route

The weather could’ve been better with an overcast sky and strong humidity which made it feel cool at the start. Once I warmed up it got sticky. Weather while I biked: start 79 (78% humidity, 71.1 dew point), overcast, wind NE 9 mph. Finish 81 (73% humidity, 72.0 dew point), overcast, wind E 7 mph.

Riding to the north the wind didn’t present a problem as I improved my average speed. Once I made the turn back to the south the tailwind allowed me to push the average speed to 14.5 mph at one point but then settled in at 14.4 mph until I got to Kings Manor.

TEXARKANA, Texas — Berridge Bikes has been pedaling away since 2002. After starting at a New Boston Road location, it has become a downtown fixture.
