About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Thanks to Early Rain Cooler Bike Ride

Texbiker.net Posted on June 24, 2019 by Rick AnkrumJune 24, 2019

One benefit of the early rain was the cooler temperature at the 12:06 PM start of the bike ride. The down side was the delay while the streets dried off. I chose the “Kingwood – SH 242 – Kingwood” route and biked 39.21 miles. This puts my June total at 732.29 miles, 68 miles short of my goal for the month.

Depending on which way I looked at the sky it either looked like it could rain (to the southeast) or the rain is done (to the northwest). The streets were dry except for low spots. After I finished the ride I washed the Canyon to get all of the sprayed dirt off. Weather during the bike ride: start 75 (86% humidity, 70 dew point), mostly cloudy, wind SE 15 mph. Finish 87 (66% humidity, 74 dew point), mostly cloudy, wind S 6 mph. The cooler temperature invigorated my pedaling and my average speed got up to 14.6 mph. The light wind helped too.

On the way back to Kingwood I stopped at the Circle K in Porter on FM 1314 at US59 to refill my water bottle and eat a Clif Bar. I wasn’t there long and headed south on the frontage road. I took these photos to show the sky around Circle K.

  • Bike Ride Porter Circle K-1
  • Bike Ride Porter Circle K-2
  • Bike Ride Porter Circle K-3

About a 1/4 mile south of FM 1314 I looked to my left to see cars and trucks exited the freeway across the grass among the trees. The I saw the traffic was backed up on the freeway. It was a good idea to leave the frontage road into Autumn Trail to avoid the traffic moving to the frontage road. After biking through Oakhurst, west on Northpark Drive, south on Kingwood Place I made my way back to the service road. The freeway was almost empty because the problem was north. As I waited to ride south a big wrecker towed a Walmart 18 wheeler and trailer by making me think that was the source of the problem. Four Houston Police cruisers drove as well.

Once the traffic thinned I made my way to the u-turn at Kingwood Drive to return to Kingwood. I finished the ride at 3:03 PM.

Tuesday’s weather might include rain but I plan on riding to get closer to my June goal.

Why this pastor is biking across America

By Jason Yates | www.christianpost.com

At a time when people seem almost irreconcilably divided over political and cultural issues, something needs to be done to cut through the discord and bring people back together. Neil Tomba, senior pastor of Northwest Bible Church in Dallas, TX, is doing something a little untraditional this month in an effort to do just that: biking across America.

His journey isn’t for exercise or competition, but to have civil, caring conversations with every …
