About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Road Runner Rocks: Surviving my first gravel event in 3 not-so-easy steps

Jami Clayman | www.jamiclayman.com

Signing up for long distance events motivates me to stay on top of my miles during the week. I’m lucky enough to live in North Texas where I can take advantage of gravel events close to home. Dave and I signed up for the 50 mile Road Runner Rocks Route. The Spinistry put on the event. Kevin, the race promoter, could be counted on for lots of hills, and a challenging well-mapped course.

I’m new to gravel. What I’ve learned is not earth shattering. However, if you want to learn from a newb’s point of view then please read on. …

New stairs and wooded sections make the difference for the winners in a dry, tacky race

Iconic voice of cycling Paul Sherwen dies at 62-years-old

Cycling broadcaster and former professional rider Paul Sherwen has passed away at 62-years-old. The Lancashire, England native was the voice of the Tour de France for many viewers commentating alongside Phil Ligget for decades most recently on NBC Sports. Sherwen lived in Kampala, Uganda. …

I cannot grasp that this voice has been stilled and this smile is gone. A gracious gentleman, a friend, an indelible and indefatigable presence on the roads of the Tour and anywhere bikes are raced. My deepest condolences to his loved ones. https://t.co/wl1t2cmE31

Share the road: Staying safe during peak racing season

Anny Sivilay | starlocalmedia.com

Peak racing season is in full gear for many endurance runners and cyclists. Fall through spring is prime racing season with cooler temperatures and the bulk of races being held from October through April. While races are monitored by local law enforcement, it’s during training that cyclists, runners and motorist should be mindful of their surroundings and remember to share the road.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s (NHTSA) Traffic Safety Facts 2015 data states that in 2015 there were 5,376 pedestrians killed and an estimated 70,000 injured on traffic crashes in the United States. About …
