Route Slip

February 26, 2007 By: Administrator Category: Article, Maps

I was reading another bicycling blog from a rider in the Dallas Fort Worth area and he mentioned a website Route Slip. Sounded interesting.

The purpose of Route Slip: “RouteSlip.com is a website for cycling enthusiasts. You can map out your favorite bike rides, print out route slips, create elevation profiles for your rides, manage your training log, and interact with other cyclists.”

There are similar websites.

Beatrice Tour of Texas

February 25, 2007 By: Administrator Category: Commentary

Now that the Amgen Tour of California has been completed I was thinking back many years to the Beatrice Tour of Texas. I still have a bicycle cap from the last year of the tour. I went to the Astrodome for a criterium around the outside road that circled the dome. The sun was hot as was the racing but the crowd was no where near the crowds in California. But this was before a guy named Lance and even before Greg Lemond. Sadly Beatrice disappeared as a sponsor and the Tour of Texas last only a year or two after that.

“Cyclists in Suits” date is set for April 23, 2007, at the Texas State Capital in Austin. We need volunteers to participate in lobbying for legislation that will affect cycling in Texas. The Texas Bicycle Coalition is currently working on SB248, the Safe Passing BIll, that will require a motorist to give at least three feet of clearance when passing a bicyclist and would require a commercial vehicle to give at least six feet of clearance when passing a bicycist.

Houston Chronicle Cycling Notebook Mention

February 22, 2007 By: Administrator Category: Article, Commentary

Today’s (February 22rd) Houston Chronicle Cycling Notebook’s Dale Robertson recommended texbiker.net’s event calendar as a “go to” source for Texas bicycling events. I appreciate his mention and link.

Also in the article Dale writes about Austin riders biking to Alaska. Fortunately, they will ride in June. I would not look forward to riding a bike to Alaska right now.

Ever Wonder What It Is Like to Ride in a Support Vehicle?

February 22, 2007 By: Administrator Category: Commentary

The Fredcast podcast this week is reporting behind the scenes at the Amgen Tour of California. David Bernstein in episode 58 rode in the Mavic car 1 during the race and talked with Randy the driver. You can get a perspective of racing you will not see on TV.
