About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Video: Legacy Trails 2-mile expansion connecting north, south Tyler underway

By Kristine Guevara | www.kltv.com

TYLER, Texas (KLTV) – Construction is underway adding almost two miles to Legacy Trails. In July 2019, the four and a half mile trail opened, going from Three Lakes Parkway to Gresham. But now, Tyler is working on a new goal, to connect citizens from the south to the northside of the city.

“This is opportunities to provide quality of life for citizens of Tyler, giving them places to get outside, to hike, to bike, to different parts of the city and ultimately longer distances within the city,” said Project Manager Cameron Williams.

Phase two starts at Peete Elementary in north Tyler, goes through W.E. Winters Park, and ends at the future Stewart Park site along Frankston Highway. Williams said they plan to build a trailhead with a parking area.

The Parks Department will then …

Day 5: Valentine to Marfa: So cold, so slow

Tuesday January 16, 2024, 36 miles (58 km) – Total so far: 203 miles (327 km) We woke up in the Kay Johnson Library and temperature was 18 outside. We took our sweet time leaving. At 11, it was finally above freezing, so we decided we better head out.

It was a rough one. We were both freezing, the wind in our faces. It was a relatively flat route but our bikes felt like they were riding through molasses. It didn’t help that the road in this section is straight, empty, and lacking scenery.

Luckily after 20 miles, we were able to …

Day 6:Marfa to Alpine: Famous burritos, amazing rides, and charming Alpine

Wednesday January 17, 2024, 40 miles (64 km) – Total so far: 243 miles (391 km) Today was a great day.

Because we were doing a shorter day today we had time to explore Marfa before leaving towards Alpine.

We started at Marfa Burrito,a local institution. Well worth the stop and fun to see photos of Anthony Bourdain, Kevin Bacon, and more celebrities that have enjoyed those same burritos. Bring cash!

We then took a leisurely ride around town to see the …

Epic KOM Saved For Last 7 Miles: Zwift Watopia Sugar Cookie

Texbiker.net Posted on January 17, 2024 by Rick AnkrumJanuary 17, 2024

This will be my fourth ride on Watopia’ Sugar Cookie route. Not sure where the Sugar Cookie name comes from. The last 7 miles are not that sweet. The previous rides were 24.3 miles with 846 feet of climbing. the ride begins with a descent from 328 feet to 49 feet. From there rolling hills for 14.4 miles put me at the foot of the big climb on the route. The climb goes up Epic KOM almost 300 feet in 1.25 miles. A small descent leads to the final climb of 40 feet over .75 of a mile. The last 3.25 miles is downhill except for a small kickup near the finish. The last ride took 1:30:38. I improved that time and garnered these Strava top results: PR on Epic KOM – Start to Bypass Intersection (9:43), PR on Sugar Cookie (1:16:20), 2nd fastest time on Epic KOM Bypass – Westbound (4:41), and 3rd fastest time on Jungle Descent (5:05). There were four sprints but I didn’t improve my PR on any of them.

Flattest Stretches: Watopia Triple Flat Loops

Texbiker.net Posted on January 16, 2024 by Rick AnkrumJanuary 16, 2024

The flattest stretches of Watopia. 21.1 miles, 514 feet elevation gain. This will be the 10th time riding this route. Outside it is 30 degrees, up from 17 degrees around sunrise. Only place to ride is Zwift; total of 32617 people Zwifting when I started. At 4.76 miles the first significant climb covered 1/2 mile going up from 45 to 89 feet. The following downhill lasted about 1.25 miles bottoming out at 18 feet below sea level. This was under water until 7.69 miles when a 2.23 mile long climb went up to 71 feet for a total gain of 89 feet. I got some relief after the climb going downhill for 1.43 miles. From there the road went up for 2.71 miles, 73 feet above sea level. A brief .73 mile downhill gave me recovery time for the .31 mile uphill gaining 30 feet. The next 1.95 miles descended to below sea level, a 1.08 mile flat section under water. The final big climb lasted 2.06 miles up 70 feet onto Fuego Flats to the finish. Overall Strava says this was 3rd fastest time on Rebel Route: Triple Flat Loops (1:09:55).
