About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Video: New bike lanes connecting cyclists to downtown

By Blake Hill | www.newschannel6now.com

WICHITA FALLS, Texas (KAUZ) – Some new stripes have been painted on some roads in Wichita Falls, they’re the new bike lanes being marked by the city to hopefully keep cyclists safe.

While safety is a large part of the city’s decision to implement the bike lanes, it also connect cyclists to central parts of the city, like connecting downtown to the circle trail.

“The next step is kind of these dedicated bike paths that you see in more places, so we had a few of them already, Hamilton, but now you’re going to see a lot more of those. They’re kind of strategically placed to connect people to the trail and and more …

Success of Texas A&M’s new bike-sharing program overshadowed by bicycle being placed on the dome of the Academic Building

www.spreaker.com

Listen to “Success of Texas A&M’s new bike-sharing program overshadowed by bicycle being placed on the dome of the Academic Building” on Spreaker.

An Instagram photo has gone viral, showing what appears to be someone with the VeoRide bicycle that wound up on top of the dome of Texas A&M’s Academic Building. The image of the person’s face is covered by a happy face emoji, and their left hand with an Aggie ring giving the “horns down” sign.

That followed a tweet from Texas A&M that also went viral, showing the bicycle on top of the dome.

An A&M spokeswoman says scaffolding at the base of the dome…which could have been the way the …

Southern Tier El Paso to New Orleans

Day 2:Fort Hancock to Sierra Blanca: A day of a car free roads Saturday January 13, 2024, 42 miles (68 km) – Total so far: 93 miles (150 km) Leaving Fort Hancock was a breeze. Jumped on Hwy 20 and then Texas Farm Road 192. There was no shoulder but we didn’t need one. For almost 20 miles we didn’t see any cars. Amazing! We did see a Border Patrol station and lots of ruins of towns of the past. The interstate really killed these small towns.

We stopped at Tiger Town Truck Stop and grabbed a couple bean burritos and they let us fill our water bottles. You can camp here and get a shower, just ask inside.

Then we joined Interstate 10 for 2 miles. Not great but when is interstate riding great? Then we were able to get on a frontage road and climbed a 4 to 5 % grade through the Sierra Blanca mountains for about 10 miles before arriving at a picnic area off the highway. No bathrooms but shaded tables which is nice. The …

Two Big Climbs On Zwift’s Watopia Figure 8 Reverse

Texbiker.net Posted on January 13, 2024 by Rick AnkrumJanuary 13, 2024

It’s been almost 2 years since my last ride on this route. Lead-in 1/10th mile, total distance 18.5 miles, 834 ft elevation gain. Combination of Hilly Roads and Flat Roads for a long double loop of the island. The route goes over the same climb in both directions as the SportTracks ride summary shows. That was where the climbing concentrated but there were a couple of short steep climbs. I saw 12% briefly in a spot other than the big climbs. I missed the first sprint with my attention elsewhere but did much better riding the same sprint in the opposite direction. I continued my streak of riding this week each day. Strava shows this PR on Figure 8 Reverse (1:08:27). SportTracks shows the March 8th ride was faster.

When I woke up this morning it was 30 degrees outside but warmed quickly into the 50’s. When I settled into getting ready to ride Zwift it hovered around 60 degrees. The next 3 days will be cold and colder.

Again the SportTracks route profile shows the two climbs are more pronounced than Strava.

Texas’ Lone Lift-Served Mountain Bike Park Adding New Trail

Zander Lingelbach-Pierce | www.bikemag.com

The hills of Texas are not the first place most people would expect to find a ski lift. And yet, in the hill country, you will find Spider Mountain Bike Park, the only lift-served bike park in the state.

On January 11, 2024, the park announced it was expanding. See pictures of the construction below.

This new trail, which has yet to be named, will hopefully open on February 9th for Spider’s Hill Country Downhill series. Though little info has been given, based on …

Southern Tier El Paso to New Orleans

By Cortney O. | www.crazyguyonabike.com

Day 1: El Paso to Fort Hancock: Tailwinds, Pecans, and Small Burritos Friday January 12, 2024, 51 miles (82 km) – Total so far: 51 miles (82 km) We woke up to calmer skies in El Paso. Yesterday we had a huge wind and dust storm blow through so we opted to be safe and sheltered. But now we head out on Section 3 of the Southern Tier. We decided trying to get to Sierra Blanca in one go would be too much. So Fort Hancock and it’s one lodging establishment will have to do.

Fort Bend County DA’s office buys e-bikes for new pedestrian, cyclist safety programs

By Kelly Schafler | communityimpact.com

The Fort Bend County district attorney’s office officials hope the purchase of two electric bicycles will help further the county’s mission to improve pedestrian and cyclist safety.

At the Jan. 9 Commissioners Court meeting, Fort Bend County commissioners approved the DA office’s request to purchase the e-bikes using funding from its asset forfeiture fund, which comes from property seizures made in criminal investigations, according to the U.S. Department of Justice.

Although other law enforcement agencies have begun implementing two-wheeled fleets, it’s a …

Better Promise Me I’ll Be Back In Town Boerne, Texas

Brent Wells | strava.com

INSANELY windy, but still dry and I got off work early enough to get a little ride in. I left from #MyOldShop in Boerne once more, and I’m actually hoping to some day be back here permanently.????? I better get some rest because I’m supposed to go on a group ride leaving from Comfort tomorrow! Glad we’re getting these rides in before the blizzard is supposed to hit. ? As always, I thank my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, for saving me both spiritually, and physically thus enabling me to return to this sport that I love, and I thank Him for another safe ride with zero mechanicals or flats.

70 Degrees Lasted One Day. Back To Zwift Watopia Sugar Cookie

Texbiker.net Posted on January 12, 2024 by Rick AnkrumJanuary 12, 2024

The 70 degree weather lasted one day. When I woke up this morning the wind was strong and the temperature slowly dropping from 63 degrees. It is January. This meant today’s bike ride was going to be in Zwift. I was thinking ahead a couple of days ago on which route to ride and the Watopia Sugar Cookie came to mind. The 24.2 miles was long enough and I thought my legs would power me up the 846 feet elevation gain. That happened today. In November I rode this route twice. As the ride progressed I thought today was going to be slower than those two but it turned out it was faster, enough to get the Strava PR on Sugar Cookie (1:19:49) plus two others: 2nd fastest time on Epic KOM – Start to Bypass Intersection (10:17) and 2nd fastest time on Epic KOM Bypass – Westbound (4:42). I thought climbing the Epic KOM I was going slow. I was out of the saddle whenever the gradient hit 8% or more.

The profile on Strava flattens out the Epic KOM and SportTracks seems more representative.
