About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

When Will the Big Chill End Indoor Bicycling

Texbiker.net Posted on February 12, 2018 by Rick AnkrumFebruary 12, 2018

The cold weather continues keeping me inside on the Cycleops Fluid Trainer today. 47 degrees while I was on the trainer with an overcast sky. The Blue Norcross AL is racking up some miles but not much on the road. I may need to consider a special trainer tire rather than wearing out the Continental Gatorskin on the back tire.

Endurance was the trainer theme today. At the 4 mile point I shift into the 36 x 15 gears and tried to hold the rpms at 89 to 91 until I reached 11 miles where I shifted to a smaller gear to cool down. Around the 9 mile point my legs starting to send messages that this was causing some issues but I pedaled on. This is not as dramatic as intervals but does seem to stress the legs. If I get back on the road I hope this trainer activity helps.

PowerPod and Elemnt computer were friendly today, handing off the information without any extra button pushing.

Weather forecast for Tuesday says a high of 55 which means another day on the trainer. Wednesday, Thursday and Friday look to be in the 70’s before the next cold spell arrives on Saturday.

“I like working on bikes, and getting out of the house and doing things.”

Robert Monday lives in Denison and has a passion for fixing bikes of all shapes and sizes. Last Christmas, he was inspired to use that passion for something bigger when he thought of the parents who couldn’t afford to give children bikes of their own. …

The bikers finally made their stop at Kyle’s final resting place at the Texas State Veterans Cemetery. None knew Kyle personally, but were moved by …

Longing For 80 Degrees Biking Indoors

Texbiker.net Posted on February 11, 2018 by Rick AnkrumFebruary 11, 2018

Glad I skipped registering for the Humble Lions Club Bike ride yesterday (Saturday). It rained up until 11 am or so and then scattered rain during the afternoon. I was lazy and didn’t use the trainer then but today I got on the Cycleops Fluid Trainer with my Blue Norcross AL bike. Outside it was a frosty 41 degrees while I worked up a sweat inside.

Intervals was the workout flavor for today, eight of them. I peaked using the 36 x 12 gear combination. Sometime during the workout the PowerPod recorded max watts of 2100. My legs felt like that at time but I think it might be in error. The PowerPod connected to the Elemnt with a little button pushing after initially not being cooperative.

To combat the cool breeze from the fan I wore a long sleeve jersey which also held the sweat from dripping on the bike and floor.

Checking what I did on this date last year: 80 degrees while riding the Humble Lions Club Bike Ride 55 miles. Big difference in the weather. To make myself feel worse the weather in Key West, FL is 80 degrees today. Maybe warmer weather will arrive and I get to bike outside.
