About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Veteran rides bike across US to ‘make the world make sense’

By KELAN LYONS | www.theeagle.com

Subsisting on a diet of ramen and oatmeal, Robert Neidlinger has ridden his bicycle from San Diego to College Station — a roughly 1,400-mile journey — over the past three months. And he still has about 1,000 miles to go.
The 53-year-old Gulf War veteran is riding his bike from the West to the East Coast — California to Florida — and expects to make it to St. Augustine sometime next month. He arrived in College Station on Wednesday night, where he stopped to do laundry, fix a bike pump at a repair shop on …

Thief steals new bike from special needs man in Denison

By Sara Humphrey | www.kxii.com

DENISON, Texas (KXII) — Surveillance video outside a Denison grocery store shows a man stealing a bike that belongs to a special needs man.
Anthony Adams has worked at Albertsons in Denison for about a month and when mom can’t drive him there, he likes to ride his brand new bicycle.
“I got it for my birthday and my high school graduation present from my aunt,” Adams said.
Adams says he took his bike to work Saturday afternoon, chained it up near the front door then went inside to start his …

Proposed rail to trail plan featured in national publication

By STEVE CLARK | www.valleymorningstar.com

BROWNSVILLE — The Lower Rio Grande Valley Active Transportation and Tourism Plan is getting national attention, with the project featured in the spring/summer 2017 issue of “Rails to Trails Magazine,” the official publication of the Rails-to-Trails Conservancy.
Washington D.C.-based RTC, which facilitates rails-to-trails projects around the country, also has assigned someone to help find money for the project. The …

Tour de Agua – Dublin, Texas, June 10, 2017

Pedal Pushers | roy-pedalpushers.blogspot.com

… I hadn’t attended the Dublin ride since it was called Tour de Pepper. Dr. Pepper was first bottled in Dublin beginning in 1891. Long story but Dublin can’t use of the name or logo “Dr. Pepper,” so now the ride is a charitable event to buy water filters.
Since I haven’t been to this ride in a few years, I am not sure if the attendance was good or bad. If one could have ridden and didn’t, one missed a good ride. OK, it was windy, but it’s west Texas…what’s new? …

Swimming Pool Parade Bike Ride

Texbiker.net Posted on June 11, 2017 by Rick AnkrumJune 11, 2017

A shorter bike ride today to bump the week’s mileage up to 231.6 following the “Atascocita South – Walden” route. This route is a combination of streets I ride on but in a different sequence. I biked 25.3 miles under mostly cloudy skies with the temperature around 91 degrees. The start was later due to church so I left home at 12:18 and returned at 2:13. So far during June I logged 336 miles towards my 800 mile goal. I rode my Blue Norcross AL bike today.

The bike ride passed by several swimming pools and each was busy. The weekend draws people to pools especially when it is hot and dry. I saw one other biker and I waved at him but no response.

I tried to import today’s ride data into the Golden Cheetah program but it hung up at 50%. This is the first time I had a problem with GC in quite some time. Maybe it is trying to tell me to simplify my life and only use three programs. I do like the charts GC has though.

More nice weather in the forecast for Monday and I plan on bicycling.

Construction Abounds Nearby Bike Ride

Texbiker.net Posted on June 10, 2017 by Rick AnkrumJune 10, 2017

I waited for the Critérium du Dauphiné stage to end and what looked like the winning time for the Tour de Suisse Prologue before getting ready to leave on today’s bike ride at 10:31. After yesterday’s 46+ mile long ride I decided to ride the “New Caney – Tavola – Valley Ranch” route for a total of 34.72 miles putting the week at 206.12 miles. Tomorrow I plan on biking around 22 miles as a rest day to prepare for next week.

A mostly cloudy sky kept the temperature modest with 82 at the start and 87 at the 1:03 PM finish. The wind was stronger than yesterday coming from the SE at 10 mph with 17 mph gusts. I pedaled quickly to Tavola but the ride back required much more effort. My maximum watts was riding along Valley Ranch Parkway south of the Grand Parkway on a small uphill into the wind. I was standing on the pedals to get maximum effort when I glanced at the Elemnt computer and saw the watts.

No rest stop today with the shorter distance except for traffic lights and stop signs. I don’t remember seeing another biker on the ride. The new Walmart in New Caney is starting to look like a Walmart with the gas station sporting the Walmart name and logo on the blue band on the gas pump canopy. The main building has a big white spot where the name and logo will be put too. I hope the increased traffic on the south bound service road doesn’t impact my bike ride too much.

Earlier this week on the May Park Community Center – Huffman route I saw evidence of the Grand Parkway construction north and east of Huffman between the May Community Center and Hargrave High School. I am not sure how this will affect biking there.
