A short ride compared to the other rides this week. A special day of memories with today being my late wife’s birthday. I rolled out at 9:51 AM on my Cervelo Caledonia bike. The route (Kingwood – FM1485 – Kingwood) went north through several Kingwood villages, Woodridge Forest, and Brooklyn Trails before I reached the US59 north bound frontage road. I stayed on the frontage road until Rosewood Cemetery to visit my wife’s grave site. Back to US59 for a short ride to Community Drive to reach Loop 494. Loop 494 took me to Payne Road and back to US59 crossing Caney Creek then looping underneath for the ride back south through Valley Ranch. I stopped under TX99 for about 10 minutes to rest in the shade and take in what breeze there was. Continuing south to FM1314 and through Briar Tree, Oakhurst and then back to US59. When I got to Northpark Drive I rode on the new trail to the Circle K store. Another break at Circle K for ice and Brisk Raspberry Zinger tea sitting in the limited shade. The tea energized me for the ride to the finish at 1:27 PM. The hot weather continues to control with much sun, humidity, but only a light breeze.

WICHITA FALLS (KFDX/KJTL) — One hundred miles stands as the namesake for the biggest bike ride in Texoma. The Hotter N’ Hell Hundred pits riders against triple-digit heat and 100 miles of Texoma roads.
But not everyone can take on a hundred-mile bike ride in those conditions. Which is why Amy Hamlin says the Hotter’N Hell has the 10k, too.
“It’s more like a family affair. We see a lot of families, moms, dads, brothers, sisters, even babies,” Hamlin said. “We also see pets. We have a lot of dogs.”

With the sun just starting to rise, 50 riding enthusiasts made their way from the 1st Baptist Church pedaling their way down Avenue B with some participants riding more than 60 miles before completing their journey.
The race was part of the annual Cove House Classic Bike Tour which offered races ranging from 26 miles to 66.3 miles. Some racers opted to ride to Topsey and back for a shorter, unofficial version of the race. The bike tour featured seven rest stops along the way.
Jesus Rivera and husband and wife duo, Priscilla and Erick Rendon, drove all the way from San Antonio to participate in the Cove House Classic. The three planned to complete the 62-mile ride. …
I rode the route that I didn’t complete last Thursday when I crashed, Atascocita South – Walden – Huffman. Before the ride I looked up my last ride on the route and learned it was 2 months ago on June 13th. I altered the part of the route passing through the crash scene to avoid the trees and brush blocking the trail. On the way back to not ride on the same streets I rode north along W. Lake Houston Parkway from Rustic Woods to the trail under W. Lake Houston Parkway. I have this thing about riding the same streets. Maybe I’ll get over it someday. The bike was different this time, Canyon Endurace CF 7. I rolled out at 10:08 AM after watching stage 5 of the Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift planning to watch the other races after my ride. I modified the new Osprey Katari hydration pack. I noticed the ice melting sooner than the CamelBak. To counter that I added a layer of thin foam between the bladder and the fabric facing the sun. I think it helped some. It was hot and the sun glared brightly. I stopped for a break at the Chevron station at Atascocita Shores Drive at FM1960. Sitting in the shade enjoying the breeze and sipping cool water made it hard to get back on the Canyon bike but I did it. The heat took a toll sapping my speed until I finished at 1:31 PM.
