Headed north on the bike ride to Roman Forest Blvd. making the u-turn back there. During the ride I went through Woodridge Forest, Tavola West, Valley Ranch, Briar Tree, Oakhurst, Kings Manor, and back into Kingwood. I call this the New Caney – Roman Forest Blvd – Oakhurst route. The last time on this route was July 1st. I left at 10:10 AM on my Cervelo Caledonia bike. I’m happy to report the front disc adjustment has silenced the chirping with the wheel purring along. The wind was light but the temperature wasn’t. The ride ended at 1:22 PM. I stopped for a few minutes under TX99 to sip water, enjoy some shade and a light breeze at times. The 7Eleven at FM1314 allowed me to fill my water bottle with ice to get home.

AUSTIN, Texas — A herd of goats has returned to Austin’s Ann and Roy Butler Hike-and-Bike Trail, munching on unwanted vegetation as part of an eco-friendly landscaping initiative.
The Trail Conservancy, which manages the popular urban path, has brought back the four-legged landscapers to clear overgrown areas, including patches of poison ivy. The goats will work for …
Biking a route in reverse exercises the mind and the legs, especially if it is not very often. Today I rode Kingwood streets and trails in the reverse of my usual direction. The trails were an unknown if they would be cleared but no problems. I saw numerous damaged trees and stumps though. Beginning at 12:08 PM meant the heat was on. I rode my Lynskey Helix bike. I used some landmarks to identify some turns. I wasn’t sure how many miles this would be and ended at 2:20 PM with 25.25 miles. August now totals 302 miles leaving 602 miles to reach my goal.

Anyone who’s spent enough time in Houston has seen at least one ghost bike. The stark-white bicycles serve a grim reminder of the perils of Houston’s car-centric infrastructure.
James Midkiff was riding his bike on a cool evening in late 2023 when he was struck by a driver in a white sedan. They didn’t stop to help, and the 36-year-old died from his injuries. No one was ever arrested for Midkiff’s killing. Crimestoppers offered a paltry $5,000 for anyone with information regarding his killer’s identity, but the money went unclaimed. …
