About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

North To Woodbranch, Checked Bridge And Tavola West Progress

Texbiker.net Posted on September 27, 2023 by Rick AnkrumSeptember 27, 2023

I rode north on today’s bike ride aboard my Canyon Endurace bike. The route was one I rode September 18th but one I’ve only biked 4 previous times not counting today, Porter – Woodbranch – Valley Ranch. Today was not exactly the same as September 18th though. I explored two places and rode through Lilliput Farms instead of Railroad Ave. back to Roman Forest Blvd. I looked closer at the north Loop 494 approach to the Caney Creek bridge and went through Tavola West to see 5 houses under construction. More about those in the video. Wheels down at 9:45 AM, later than I should’ve started. The temperature was 83 degrees and the humidity had time to decrease to 75%, not the 96% at the start of yesterday’s ride. When I finished at 12:59 PM today my arm sleeves had heavy salt stains but the temperature was 88 degrees, much cooler than earlier in September. Wind was light at 5 mph, not taxing my legs too much. riding 39.33 miles put me over 800 miles for the month.

From Zero to Two: Houston’s Bike Share Saga Continues

By Diana Ionescu | www.planetizen.com

The city is now proposing supporting BCycle as well as launching a new, complementary system.

Earlier this month, Houston Bike Share, the nonprofit running Houston’s BCycle bike share system, announced that it would have to shut down operations within the next two months due to budget shortages.

Since then, the region’s Metropolitan Transit Authority has floated plans to create its own bike share system more focused on residential neighborhoods and commuters than recreational trips.

Now, Mayor Sylvester Turner is proposing giving BCycle $500,000 to keep its system afloat, a proposal that the city will vote on this Wednesday, reports Jay R. Jordan in …

Making Up Some Miles, Cooler, Biked To Indian Shores Road

Texbiker.net Posted on September 26, 2023 by Rick AnkrumSeptember 26, 2023

Back on the bike today after not riding yesterday. The temperature was cooler thanks to some rain last evening and clouds this morning. Checking my SportTracks workout list the Atascocita – Walden – Indian Shores Road route came up. The last time I rode it was May 16th (I said May 21st in the video but that was wrong). Biking it today would be the 5th time overall. The average distance looks to be around 40 miles which would help make up for not riding yesterday. Pushing away at 9:16 AM on my Cervelo Caledonia bike the route goes south and east on familiar streets. The route is a different combination of roads I ride that became available when the construction on FM 2100 finished earlier this year. FM 2100 has a nice wide concrete shoulder from FM 1960 to Crosby. The wind was light and the temperature only reached 82 degrees when I finished at 12:24 PM. It took about 20 miles to get my overall average speed to 13 mph but I held it there until the end. The GoPro wouldn’t record when I got to Atascocita Shores Drive on the way back. I wanted to record the work in the middle of FM 1960. Overall weather: Start 73 degrees, 96% humidity, dew point 72.3, fog, wind NE 6 mph; Finish 82 degrees, 74% humidity, dew point 73.4, a few clouds, wind E 7 mph. I rode 40.21 miles today. September miles: 767.
