About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Sharing Spaces: Cyclist accuses driver of assault

By: Michelle Lorenzo | www.kristv.com

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Many incidents involving drivers, cyclists, or pedestrians on Corpus Christi roads have resulted in injuries, hospitalizations, and even deaths.

Some unfortunate events were created unintentionally. However, according to local cycling groups, a situation which harmed a person on a bike wasn’t an accident at all.

In light of an alleged assault, Coastal Bend cyclists are uniting with the hope of change.

"We just need to be kind, we need to …

Showdown with Pegasus Cycling – COMMENTARY – Tuesday Night Crit – Masters – 8/01/2023

Honest Tree | www.youtube.com

We entered the last race as heavy underdogs to the Pegasus Cyling team, as they occupied 1st and 3rd in the standings. It was a weird race for me!

Sam made a very nice video of the race which shows many things which mine doesn’t. Including the early attacks in the first 3 laps.

Canyon Endurace On Atascocita – Walden – Huffman Route

Texbiker.net Posted on August 3, 2023 by Rick AnkrumAugust 3, 2023

My bike ride start time gradually is getting later each time. Today I started at 8:50 AM even though I wanted to start about 20 minute earlier. Maybe to tomorrow I can everything together and begin earlier. My Canyon Endurace was the bike for today’s ride on my Atascocita – Walden – Huffman route. I left out a few streets before leaving Kingwood compared to the typical ride on this route. After the previous rides this month I thought a shorter bike ride was in order. The average distance is 34.6 miles but today I biked 33.31 miles. The week now totals 155.74 miles and the month 108.33 miles (14% of my 800 mile goal). I’m slightly ahead of the pace to reach that goal. I need to average 25.8 miles per day and I’m averaging 36.11 miles per day. No rain allows me to ride each day so far and the forecast says that could last a week or more. My yard is crying out for water though. I saw another cyclist in Kings River on Water Point Trail. I finished at 11:38 AM before it got real hot. Weather: Start 88 degrees, 70% humidity, dew point 76.6, a few clouds, wind S 4 mph; Finish 96 degrees, 52% humidity, dew point 75.0, partly cloudy, wind S 6 mph.

Editorial: Onus on TxDOT to get Broadway corridor project moving

Express-News Editorial Board | www.expressnews.com

It was the Texas Department of Transportation that brought a city plan to create a “complete street” configuration on upper Broadway to a grinding halt 18 months ago.

It is the TxDOT’s responsibility to get the project moving in a way that honors the will of San Antonio voters. More specifically, it is the responsibility of J. Bruce Bugg, the San Antonio banker and chair of the Texas Transportation Commission who cited fears of congestion in quashing the project in January 2022, to find a way forward.

Let’s take a step back: In 2017, San Antonio voters overwhelmingly approved the city’s bond package, which included a $42 million plan to redevelop a stretch of upper Broadway from Interstate 35 to Burr Road.

This plan would have reduced traffic lanes from six to four, but it would have doubled sidewalks from 4 feet to 8 feet and created a separate 5-foot bicycle lane. This is the idea of a complete street — something that …

Up Twice Mount Railroad Overpass On Timber Forest Drive

Texbiker.net Posted on August 2, 2023 by Rick AnkrumAugust 2, 2023

South today on the second bike ride in August. I stayed west of Lake Houston on the Atascocita – Balmoral – W Lake Houston Pkwy – Walden route. The last time I biked this route was June 15th and the third time overall. The route became available once the railroad overpass on Timber Forest Drive south of Greens Road opened earlier this year. That railroad overpass falls into the mountain category and I rode up twice today. It wasn’t one of my faster average speed rides. I think my legs are tired. Maybe a shorter ride tomorrow will help. With 2 37+ miles rides in August I’m slightly ahead of the pace to reach my 800 mile goal.

The hot weather continued with the forecast calling for 100+ later today. I rolled out at 8:45 AM on my Cervelo Caledonia bike and finished at 12:03 PM. This route doesn’t lend itself to refiling my water bottle so I used my CamelBak. There was some water left when I finished and it was still cold, thankfully. Weather: Start 85 degrees, 73% humidity, dew point 75.5, fair, wind SW 4 mph; Finish 95 degrees, 48% humidity, dew point 72.2, partly cloudy, wind N 4 mph.

I saw another cyclist on Timber Forest Drive north of Madera Run Parkway riding the opposite direction.

The Blue Lagoon looked inviting from outside of the fence looking in.
