About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Checked The Roman Forest Blvd. Closure

Texbiker.net Posted on July 12, 2023 by Rick AnkrumJuly 12, 2023

Last week I read that Roman Forest Blvd. would be closed at the railroad crossing for 2 weeks. On today’s bike ride I wanted to check on the status of the closing. The route do this is New Caney – Roman Forest Blvd – Oakhurst. The last ride on this route was June 12th aboard my new Canyon Endurace CF7 bike. I rode 34.29 miles then. Today I rode my Lynskey Helix bike for 33.61 miles. My week now totals 113.51 miles and the month 380.42 miles towards the 800 mile goal. I’m ahead of the average 25.81 miles per day needed to reach my goal with 31.7 miles per day. I rode away at 8:43 AM and finished at 11:22 AM ahead of the excessive heat warning time.

The wind pushed me along to Roman Forest Blvd. and I expected some headwind on the return to Kingwood. But the headwind felt much stronger and my legs struggled. I attributed that to tired legs until I finished, looked at the weather, and saw 21 mph wind gusts. Weather for the bike ride: Start 84 degrees, 83% humidity, dew point 77.9, overcast, wind S 7 mph; Finish 90 degrees, 68% humidity, dew point 78.1, mostly cloudy, wind SW 9 mph gusts 21 mph.

City gets ready for Tour de Paris

Riders can take on distances of 14, 20, 24, 35, 57, 68 and 80 miles. Paul Allen, Paris Chamber President, said he expects more than 1,000 riders to participate.

San Benito native cycling across two countries for cancer

By Travis Whitehead | myrgv.com

SAN BENITO — It’s always a journey.

Sometimes, the search for a cure for cancer can seem like an endless one, and if not for the small victories, the development of treatments, and better detection, it might seem a pointless one.

After 4 Months Kingwood to Ramsey Road – Huffman Bike Ride

Texbiker.net Posted on July 11, 2023 by Rick AnkrumJuly 11, 2023

Before today’s bike ride I checked my ride history in SportTracks to see when I last rode the Kingwood to Ramsey Road – Huffman route. I didn’t expect it to be over 4 months ago on March 7th, 2023. I fixed that today. The bike choice was my Canyon Endurace and the ride started at 8:44 AM. To inspire me I watched some of stage 10 of the Tour de France pausing with around 88 km left. I wanted to finish before the hottest time of the day and did that at 12:01 PM. The March ride was 39.33 miles and today I rode 39.42 miles.

I wasn’t the only cyclist out today. I saw four others on Fairlake Lane.

When I got to Ramsey Road I took a short break at the bridge and took these photos.

My legs were tired from yesterday’s 40 mile ride. The hardest part was riding west over Lake Houston into a headwind. The wind felt cooling but taxed my legs. Weather: Start 84 degrees, 80% humidity, dew point 76.8, mostly cloudy, wind S 8 mph; Finish 91 degrees, 66% humidity, dew point 78.2, mostly cloudy, wind SW 8 mph.
