About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

By S. Crocker | www.crazyguyonabike.com

Brackettville TX – Del Rio TX

Friday May 19, 2023 Not sure why, but this was one of the best nights sleep!

Deer crossed the park while I was packing up and the camera was too far away… next time you crafty critters! 😉

After coffe and a breakfast taco it was time to hit the road. Conditions went from good, to… sublime! 15 miles West of Brackettville all the way to Del Rio, the shoulder went wider and… smmoootthh.

Second breakfast in Del Rio, grab some fruit from HEB (grocery store) and hopefully land at Governers Landin Park just outside of town.

My Legs Weren’t Frisky On A Route I Haven’t Rode In A Month

Texbiker.net Posted on May 19, 2023 by Rick AnkrumMay 19, 2023

Searching SportTracks for a ride I haven’t done in awhile I found the Atascocita South – Walden – Huffman route. The last time i rode it was March 21, 2023. That ride was 35.66 miles long. I should’ve checked the route map to see what streets were used but I rode the usual Kingwood streets through Hunters Ride Village, Elm Grove Village, Sherwood Trails Village, North Woodland Hills, Bear Branch, Kings Forest to get to W. Lake Houston Parkway. It turned out that added about a mile to the ride as I rode 36.41 miles today. Originally I was going to ride south on FM 2100 to Spanish Cove Drive but when I got to FM 2100 I turned left to ride to Huffman and FM 1960. My legs were okay but not frisky and I didn’t want to add more mileage. Today’s ride put me over the 200 mile marker for the week at 205.01. It has been awhile since I got that many miles by Friday. I’m getting closer to my goal for May with 624.56 miles, leaving 126 to go. That’s enough for 25.8 days if I rode the 24.2 miles per day pace, almost 7 days ahead. Below is that ride history for the last 12 months. I started at 9:35 AM and finished at 12:26 PM. This is the first time on my Lynskey Helix bike.

5-19-2023 SportTracks 12 Month Ride History Atascocita South-Walden-Huffman
5-19-2023 SportTracks 12 Month Ride History Atascocita South-Walden-Huffman

Weather: Start 83 degrees, 70% humidity, 71.9 dew point, a few clouds, wind SW 6 mph; Finish 88 degrees, 58% humidity, 71 dew point, a few clouds, wind variable 7 mph. Wind wasn’t too bad today.

We’re helping to make Austin Net-Zero by biking our way through life.

www.austintexas.gov

May is National Bike Month. To celebrate, we sat down with two Austinites who are doing their part to support a more sustainable Austin one ride at a time. Meet Sagar Kumashi and Saket Sripada. Sagar and Saket are friends committed to reducing their carbon footprint. In Austin, emissions caused by transportation are one of the biggest contributors to greenhouse gas emissions and the primary source of air pollution locally. Through their daily rides, Sagar and Saket are contributing to a greener, more livable city with each trip they take.

We met with Sagar and Saket in the Seaholm EcoDistrict to chat about their passion for biking, their favorite outdoor spaces in Austin, and what advice they have for future riders. …

Recovery bike ride with a shorter time window to ride for today. After two days biking south I went north on the New Caney – Tavola – Valley Ranch route. The start was 5 minutes earlier than yesterday at 8:56 AM on my Cervelo Caledonia bike. In Tavola I added two short loops on streets off of Via Principal Parkway to add a few tenths of a mile to the distance. It’s been 20 days since I rode this route last. I biked 36.74 miles which is about the average distance the last 12 months. Those miles boosted my week total to 168.59 miles which above the typical number for Thursdays. I moved to 588.14 miles leaving 161.9 miles to my goal. In the last 12 months I rode my Cervelo for all of the rides except two. I finished the ride at 11:41 AM.

As I rode through Woodridge Forest on Log Orchard Lane three large dogs came out of a driveway barking. Two of the three gave chase, one on each side of me. I sped up but they kept even with me but lost interest as I neared the stop sign where a car was standing. I went around the car in case the dogs caught up. This was the first time encountering dogs on this street. Hopefully the last since I ride there each week.

Weather conditions: Start 77 degrees, 69% humidity, 65.8 dew point, a few clouds, wind NE 5 mph; Finish 81 degrees, 62% humidity, 67 dew point, a few clouds, wind variable 4 mph. The light wind felt good blowing against my jersey and arm sleeves.
