The last two days technology conspired against my bike rides. Yesterday it was sensor batteries and today my GoPro shut off my Wahoo Bolt computer around 5.9 miles into the bike ride. I started the ride at 10:33 AM to ride my Atascocita – Walden – Huffman route. I rode my Cervelo Caledonia bike with new speed and cadence sensor batteries installed to eliminate a repeat of yesterday. What I didn’t anticipate was the GoPro mount vibrating from road texture and rotating down to push the off button on the Bolt computer. I saw the message on the computer asking me if I want to power off and I pushed No several times before realizing what was causing the problem. The Bolt shut off and erased all the ride data up to that point in the ride. Last week I tried a new position for the GoPro mount but put it back where it was. I thought I tightened the mounting bolts but not tight enough I guess.Fortunately I saw the mileage before the computer turned off. The route map shows a void from the start point to Cedar Knolls Drive by the Bear Branch Gazebo park. While I waited for the Bolt to restart I moved the GoPro mount and secured the bolts so it wouldn’t move again. I adjusted the ride mileage in the SportTracks program but not in Strava from 28.43 to 34.3 miles. I need those 6 miles to reach my 300 road miles goal for the month.
Another computer glitch happened yesterday but not bike related. I order a new laptop from Dell. FedEx delivered yesterday and when I picked up the box I thought it was light for a laptop. I opened the box and all that was there was the laptop lid/screen, no keyboard. I returned it today.
Around the 2.6 mile point three cyclists made a left turn coming towards me in Sherwood Trails Village. I thought I might see them again later in the ride but didn’t. The technology glitch may have impacted seeing them again.
The wind was strong during the ride. At the start it was from the south at 13 mph and when I finished at 1:19 PM it increased to 16 mph with 24 mph gusts. I felt those gusts as I crossed Lake Houston in both directions. The wind was chilly over the lake. Glad I wore a long sleeve jersey under the wind jacket. Weather overall: start 69, 74% humidity, dew point 61, mostly cloudy, wind S 13 mph; finish 73, 64% humidity, dew point 60, mostly cloudy, wind S 16 mph gusts 24 mph. Could be windier tomorrow for biking.
I set a Strava PR on Kings Crossing North (1:39). Fortunately this was after the computer problem.
