Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

SETHBC Big Thicket Bike Tour – Kountz, TX

The SouthEast Texas Hike & Bike Coalition promotes safe cycling across the region, and one of our most exciting family events is coming up later this year. The 5th Annual Big Thicket Bike Tour is scheduled for Saturday. Sept. 27, 2008.

The money that SETHBC raises from the tour will be used to expand our educational and safety programs.

We are happy to be able to announce that we have updated all of our routes(14, 36, 46, 75, 101 mile) this year; we will Start & Finish at the Big Thicket Visitors Center, All courses are typical scenic South East Texas/Big Thicket country-side. The natural terrain is challenging. There will be manned rest stops with restrooms, snacks and drinks. We’ll have SAG support throughout the course. All routes will start at the Big Thicket Visitors Center. Routes will include the beautiful neighboring cities of Kountze, Silsbee, Lumberton, Sour Lake, and Beaumont all on the edge of the Big Thicket National Preserve area The routes were selected by bike riders in our area.

Parker Ride for Wellness – Arlington, TX

Join us for the first annual Parker Ride for Wellness bike rally, part of a three-day health and wellness convention presented by Parker College of Chiropractic. Choose between a 22 mile, 32 mile, and 50 mile ride, beginning and ending at the Arlington Convention Center and traveling through the heart of Arlington and onto Kennendale and Mansfield.

22 mile ride – $25.00
32 mile ride – $25.00
50 mile ride – $25.00

Autumn in Bonham Bike Rally & Expo – Bonham, TX

Bring your whole family and join your cycling friends for a Bike Rally with a variety of routes to choose from. Come early and stay late for entertainment and fun-filled activities the entire family can enjoy.

You will ride through delightful scenery with light motor traffic and NO freeway service roads. The 28, 44, 54, and 64 mile routes start with several moderately rolling hills. The 54 mile route includes the infamous Leonard Hills – a series of challenging roller coaster hills with beautiful views at the crests. The 28-64 mile routes are not recommended for children 11 and under.

The Family Fun Road Ride is an easier 14 mile ride with a rest stop at the 6th mile. This ride is mostly flat terrain. Children 13 and under must be accompanied by an adult.

$25 through August 31st
$30 After August 31st

Ride The Coast – Galveston, TX

Participants will leave Moody Gardens taking a scenic ride along the coast. All pre-registered riders are guaranteed a t-shirt. There will be banana bread and goodies at all rest stops.

$30 if registered by September 16, 2008, $35 thereafter, including the day of the ride.
